Hello all, new to these forums, lots to read and learn.

I am in the market for a UPS and am considering this one > http://www.refurbups.com/APC-IBM1000-Smart-UPS-IBM-1000?sc=2&category=1573

Additionally I am looking for a new wired router.

I'm an avid gamer (EQ2) and have purchased a new Gaming Rig from Digital Storm, I am looking at the UPS to help protect my investment and the router to maximize connection reliability / upgrade to newer router technology.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
What are the specs of your new system?

What other peripherals will you be connecting to your UPS?

How much, at most, are you willing to spend on an UPS?

As far as a UPS goes I am not sure how much I am willing to spend, I have never purchased one before so I do not know what value my $$$ will provide so I guess advice on this is also appreciated.

Additional peripherals connected will be monitor, 5.1 SS speaker system, perhaps more but likely I will try to limit the number of devices on here.
 
Look at some of the available 1500VA UPSes from APC or TrippLite (among many others that I can't think of at this time).
 
Ouch $$$ I will have to keep shopping for one in the $150 to $200 price range, now that I understand more about them.

A good UPS, especially with a high power rating, isn't cheap, but it would help minimize the chances of damaged parts resulting from a power outage or a blown fuse.
 
Well you are right there tiraides, I spent about 2k on the rig so I hear ya, that is also part of the problem, my wife hid the chceck book now so.
 
Cyberpower is well known for consumer grade UPS devices. They're usually right there with APC. I wouldn't go with the APC you originally chose because it's a little light on the wattage for your PSU (700W). The Cyberpower is just right at 810W.

I don't see that particular APC UPS recommended often. I usually see the bigger APC Smart-UPS 1500VA get recommended off eBay

And let's not forget the benefit of being able to save what you were working on at the time if you weren't just playing games or surfing. Even with a UPS I've learned to save often.

Other than that, some UPSs will give you a longer run time than others in the event of an outage. Personally, if the power ain't back in 5-10 minutes, I'll do a proper shut-down and wait it out. Don't feel like pressing my luck.
