Well I need a new pair of headphones. I will be buying them on August 29 (my next pay day). I have my eye on the Corsair HS1A. I will be using them primarily for gaming with a little movie watching thrown in. I must buy them from Canada Computers as I have no credit card and this shop is a 10 minute bus ride or 30 minute walk for me. I can't spend more than $79.99 before taxes. Can anyone name me a better set of headphones or have I done alright in my selection ?
 
Push your budget $10 more to $89 and get the AudioTechnica AD700. Some of the best headphones under $200 and probably the most popular "professional" (how many pro gamers are really pro lol) headphones out there. If you need a mic, just get the Zalman mic.

It looks like there are a few other possibilities at Canada Computers but not many that are ultimately superior at that price point. If you are stuck on that set price, just go with the HS1A. They should be fine for your needs.
 
I'm looking at the online inventory. What store are you going to as they list inventory by store online.

But, as a general rule, I'd go with one of the Sennheisers (202 or 418), unless you want one with a microphone, in which case the HS1A seems good. I seem to remember a review on [H] for the headphones.

this is likely going to be my path. Had the HS1, mic breaks too easily. This is a true story for most gaming headsets. Cannot beat headphones and a mic.

Do NOT buy AudioTechnica ANYTHING without trying them on first. I had AD900s and they were so painful to wear that I had to sell them. I got Beyerdynamic DT990s instead and I find them WAY more comfortable. The AudioTechnica padding was awful enough that while it was supposed to be around-the-ear (circumaural), in actuality it was a very painful supra-aural (on-the-ear) set, at least to me. And my last name is not Obama, either.

I also found them to be somewhat too bright, but that's a much more subjective opinion. I like the sound of the DT990s much, much more.

It could of course be argued that you should check out everything before you buy it, but when there are questions of comfort, I think it becomes even more important.

P.S. Guitar Center sells them. Though not all locations may have all stock, and not all locations will let you try them out first. Not sure where else.
