New GPU core causing EUEs

Well, I only noticed one EUE with my Ati client, only one. The bulk of my EUEs are with my nVidia clients...too many that I lost count. I've had at least four temporary client shutdowns. Two of them happened today alone. Although I'm considered an extremely patient individual, knowing this might be resolved over the weekend isn't making things any better. It's just too many issues, too frequently, over too long a time that even the most tolerant folder will begin to lose it eventually.

Not ranting at you, but I'm in complete agreement with Xilikon's post. Stanford needs to carefully think over everything they do.

I've just checked my logs

ALL my pcs EUE! WTF???????? Each PC averages once a day
even at stock clock....... this is F**KED!

I just found my 8800gt had a unstable machine moment with a 5005 and eue on a 5506. The 5005 unit kind of surprised me.

I've been messing with this for a couple of days now. Seems that a LOT of people are having problems with v1.15.

v1.09 will run most WU's fine. The problem is that certain WU's (5013 for one) require the new v1.15 core and will download it automatically. Once you get one of the "bad" WU's like 5013, I don't think you can delete from your queue. You need to let it complete with v1.15 (if it can). If it DL's another bad WU your stuck with it, but if you keep looking at logs you should eventually see some good WU's and then overwrite the core with v1.09

My temporary solution is to copy v1.09 over the v1.15 every so often. If it's working on 5013 (probably others too) it doesn't do any good because it just does an auto update, but if it's running a different WU (like 5506) then I overwrite with v1.09 because I know that it will complete the WU with no (or very rare) errors.

10% PPD increase doesn't do much good if you get errors. You may get some points for partial WU's, but I don't think this data does Stanford any good.

Here is some more info on WU's:

5013, 5016: WU auto-updates to new core and requires new core to run.

5800: WU auto-updates to new core but will allow old core to be inserted (after a couple frames are done) and then run.

5014, 5015, 5504 and 5506: WU does not auto-update and runs fine with old v1.09 core.

Can't do anything about 5013 and 5016 other than hope they complete and download a different WU the next time. For everything else, copy over 1.09.

I havent turned on my Nvidia rig yet but I turned on my ATI 4850 and it DID automatically update to the 1.17 core. I was worried due to the issues but so far so good. I plan on bringing my 8800 back up this afternoon so well see.

The Ati v1.17 core is far more stable than the nVidia v1.15 core. I have one Ati client (3850) but have seen only a single EUE so far compared to my nVidia clients which have experienced numerous EUEs.

that may be your opinion
I have not experienced a single EUE with nvidia 1.15 on 4 g92 or g80 clients.
My two ATI clients on 4870s haven't completed back to back WUs since the update. And I need to delete the work folder, queue.dat, etc about 5 times before they will complete a single WU.
In my experience, nvidia 1.15 is at the very least 5x more stable than ati 1.17

+1

My 8800GT machine (Vista 64) is actually doing pretty good. It only EUEs once in a while (maybe 1 out of 5 or 6 WUs).

My 4870 machine (Vista 64) was EUE-ing on every single WU until I told it to run in XP SP2 compatibility mode. It's finishing about 2/3 of the WUs now.

I've been checking my 8800GTX. With 1.15, I'm actually stable. I checked throughout the weekend and the only errors in the logfile were the "could not get work" errors and unfortunately there were a few of them over the weekend. Those errors I can live with because hell will freeze over before I stop getting that error

Hey guys i dont know if this will work for anyone else but i went on the nvidia website and downloaded the CUDA drivers and now mine seems to work fine. Might be worth a shot
