New GPU block....Fusion Cyclone?

When I get SLI soon, Im looking into a good GPU block since ill be volt modding (the core will get hotttt) so I need a good performing block. The stasis neptune, even though I have one and love it, is just too expensive for me. I looked at the MCW60 and 55 and was like...eh, maybe. Then I looked at the MAZE4GPU and again was like eh, maybe. Then going to Petras Tech Shop, I saw the Silverprop Cyclone Fusion HL and the Silverprop Cyclone Fusion SL and recalling that someone mentioned it to me a while back when I was looking for a good performing block. Unfortunately at the time, they were nowhere to be found in stock except from overseas. Now that Petras has them in stock, what do you guys think about them? How do they perform? How does the HL perform compared to the SL? the same? Better? Its for a fair price that ill pay (along with some MC14 ramsinks) to cool my secondary card. Any info would be great. Thanks.
 
The MCW60 and Maze 4 with both beat the Silverprops. Why the heck would you give them a "eh, maybe"?

According to whom? I haven't seen hide nor hair of any reasonably valid GPU block testing. If Bill, Lee or pHaestus didn't do the test, it's not worth looking at, in my opinion.

nikhsub has a Fusion HL in his current rig, I believe. I recall him liking it.

GPUs seem to be pretty simple. Stick a simple, unrestrictive block on even the highest-end GPU and it'll get cooled reasonably well.

Out of curiosity, do you have numbers for that? Because I'd really like to see actual deltaT vs. flow graphs for those blocks... Both MaxxxRacer (over at XS) and myself are working on waterblock roundup-style reviews but we're both having issues getting our test rigs working properly.

Anyway, the Silverprop blocks are quite nice aside from the mounting hardware being a bit of a pain to work with. I usually end up adapting some extra Swiftech or DD mounting hardware for 'em.

As far as performance goes, I would expect the rundown to look something like this (pressure drop likely also would run in this same order):
AqX MP-1 GPU > MCW60 > Fusion(HL/SL) > Maze4 GPU

phide mentioned a rather important point, though... All of the GPU blocks perform within a few degrees of each other and, as a result, choosing the one with a lower pressure drop is more important as it will have less of a negative impact on your loop's flow rate.
 
^^ What Petra said. The Silverprop blocks seem to be right up there with the best of em, except their mounting hardware from all accounts is a PITA. Another advantage they have is the fact that the barbs are one solid piece of the block, so that eliminates a possible source of leakage. Also the SL is one of the thinnest GPU blocks you can find for large bore systems.
 
Yes I am currently using the Fusion HL and I really like the block. I like the fit and finish and the solid brass top. FWIW, cooling a GPU is not the same as cooling a CPU IMO. CPU's tend to be very finniky with the slightest bit of temp difference when you are pushing the OC envelope where GPU's do not in my experience. A free flowing GPU block is going to be more beneficial to the overall loop while not restricting the GPU OC. I've yet to have anyone say that they can OC their GPU further due to switching GPU WB's.

The general trend here at the [H] is quite mistifying with all these know it all's preaching fantasy as reality. If you don't have solid verifiable data don't post things as fact as if you do. You'll be doing everyone a favor.

QFT. I believe it has something to do with the temperatures gpu's are designed to work at. For a gpu to hit 80c - 100c is not really a big deal. But a cpu is a different story...

Oh yeah, Nikhsub1, your last statement gets a double QFT, QFT... :D

This is definitely true.
I had a Silverprop and was unable to get it mounted to my satisfaction so I never actually ran it.
The block is of high quality so it's mystifying how they dropped the ball so terribly when it came to installing it.
I'm relatively handy when it comes to modifying/Rube Goldberg-ing things into place but the Silverprop was more trouble than it was worth, IMO.

Personally I'd go with the MCW60 or the Maze4 or my personal fav these days is the MP-01
 
I don't know how well it performs, in comparison to the rest, but I'm a big fan of the Maze4 for a few reasons:
It performs well, we put one on my buddy's 6800GT and he gets much better temperatures than stock air.
It mounts easy, I can't imagine a better mounting scheme.
Lastly, I really like Danger Den's service and support...that alone is about enough to make me recommend their products.

I just want to point out that many CPU's are happy well up to 100C. My laptop runs constantly at 85C and is rated up to 100C. The processor is essentially a Northwood (P4-m)

Sure they are, but now try to OC that 100C processor :rolleyes:

You miss the point. You cant OC a 100C graphics card very well either. The point was that just about all computer chips are ok operating at higher temperatures, it isn't a local phenomenon of GPU's.
 
I have an HL sitting on my shelf right now. Performance wise, it is a great block. However, the mounting hardware got to me. I am switching out parts to often, it was to much of a bother. I went to a Maze4. Doesnt perform as well, but its close, and I am happy with it.

Yes true, but mobile chips are designed, and or binned for more heat tolerance. This would tend to put them in the same class as gpu's
