I have been saving a long time for this and it finally arrived; my FX-55 PCI-e SLI rig. I haven't even hooked it up yet. Here are some pics. I am soon hoping for some gaming goodness soon. Being a daddy to two kids had taken some time away from that but I hope to squeeze in a bit of time.

you know, you could probably stick some NV Silencers on those bad boys...looks like there is room. But why mess with a good thing (only to make it better). Not like you'd really need to OC those to get good performance like use single-6800GTers

Curious though, how much did it all cost? 3 large? 4 large?

Also, what PSU are you using?

It's funny how by the time you can afford to drop four big ones one a computer (bet the wife doesn't know how much you really spent) you have less time to spend on it because of children and work.

If you can spare 3-4 hours you might want to install NV5s on those 6800gt's. I found just one to be loud to the point of distraction.

What case is this system mounted in? If it is windowed you could tidy up the wiring for that ultra-clean custom look.

Some graphics benchmarks: 3DMark05, AquaMark 3, Doom3 Time Demo, Rthdribl.

Yep! More work, more money, more age, more kids plus the wife (although she is quite humorous; see above) and less time for my tactical shooters an flight sims. Can't wait to steal 10 minutes or so for HL2. Good idea on those NV5's. I might try that.

You may want a bit more time than that once you start playing HL2.

Get your wife drunk enough to pass out and send the kids to a friend's (or relatives') house. That's an all night sort of game. :D

Oh man, you are evil. One problem though is that my wife doesn't drink too much nowadays since she is trying to lose weight after having the two kids. As long as there is no crappy console type saving system, I can probably steal 10 minutes every half hour or so for a while. Being a parent comes first though. Man, sometimes being a responsible gamer is a drag!
;) I also need to network this computer to my others. I have never been good at that. Time to visit another forum for some pointers. :)
 
I would really like to hear more about your experiences with this system. I just ordered a nearly identical rig from Velocity Micro myself. Did you go with the Raptor DualX or the GamerX system? There wasn't much difference between the two, except the Raptor apparently has higher quality cabling work (done by higher-ups in the company) and also comes with "Advanced Tuning and Overclocking." I went with the Raptor because I figured it was worth another $100 or so to have their high-end techs build it and wire it. I'm told the wiring is supposed to be absolutely pristine, but I'm not all that impressed by the wiring based on your pics. Also, did you get any overclocking under warranty? What are you benchmarks, and most importantly, how loud is it?

Curious to know how that runs in your system? Heard some mobo's hate using all 4 DIMM slots and will clock the memory lower if you use'm all. Reason I ask is I have 2x 512MB already and would be cheaper to stick another 2x 512MB then buying new 2x 1GB sticks. (The mobo i'd be using would probably be the one you have in that system)

The RAM running as expected with at least stock ratings?

It's b-e-a-utiful! However, small point of contention, better cable management...at that price I would expect hidden cables and what not. Enjoy the many years of game play, like, what is it now, 2. :)

So far so good and the computer really is pretty quiet so far, but I really haven't tested it yet. I am too busy setting up my wireless LAN.
 
Quiet? That's a good sign. I read the review on CNet that they just posted about a week ago and they say it's pretty loud. This is a big concern of mine. Granted that machine had two Ultras and mine only will have two GTs.

I'm still wondering if you ordered the Raptor DualX or the GamerX machine. I'm fairly unimpressed by the wiring they did in your machine and will be mad if my wiring isn't much better since I paid a premium for it. I'm not bashing your machine by any means, but for the amount of money these computers are, I expect better.

Please keep the information coming when you get time. I'm very interested to hear/see more about this. ;)

i agree about the wiring but man that sli setup makes me wet...congrats on your new system, i'm sure on a weekend with an extra 10 minutes you could clean it up if you wanted...enjoy the system, it's a beauty.

It is the Raptor Dual IX. As far as the wiring, it's better than I could do so I am fairly satisfied. I've just been battling this wireless network I am creating. I have been out of town and for the past two days I have been setting up a wireless LAN. The setting up was easy but I am getting a very weak signal. My signal has to pass through some thick wooden bookcases and also go through the kitchen which has many electrical appliances. To top it off my ISP is wireless based as I live in relatively rural area with no cable or DSL access. So I have been having to find a good channel on the 2.4ghz range that doesn't receive disturbance from my ISP. I installed a repeater and changed channels so I see how that works.

Also, my version of Far Cry does not like the drivers that came with my system. It will only run in low rez mode!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad: A SLI rig in Low Rez. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am going to look for some patches and install newer drivers asap!

Man, if that's the wiring that comes with the Raptor, I'm not going to be too happy. I know you can make a big deal about wiring and it really doesn't matter that much, but according to their site, you're supposed to get "immaculate custom hand wiring and origami-style folded drive cables by the Senior Technical Team." I definitely wouldn't call that immaculate.

As for your Far Cry problems, what video drivers did they install? Also, are you using the latest Far Cry patch? I've heard of a lot of people having issues with SLI systems, and it's really making me nervous. I figured if you ordered it from a boutique dealer, they wouldn't ship it with all these problems in the latest games. I realize some of the issues are out of their hands, but I just can't imagine them shipping a system knowing that it likely won't work right out of the box.

Me? No, I put this together doing many side jobs last year. My Dad doesn't know the first thing about computers and wouldn't give me a dime even if I asked.
