Hello guys. I came up on a i5 750 and Gigabyte P55A-UD3 combo from Frys. I'm kinda concerned though cause the motherboard is an open box. I'm gonna give it a shot still but I need some help with the other components for my build. If the motherboard doesn't work, I was thinking about going with the MSI board. For case, I like the Thermaltake V9 or the Antec 300 Illusion, but I'm open to suggestions. For sound card, I think I like the Auzentech X-Fi Forte. Other than that, need help with the rest. Thanks.

Frys i5 + Gigabyte UD3 combo = $209 after MIR. Not included in $500 budget.

$95 after MIR FS Antec Neo Eco 620w + Antec 200 case, supposedly $15 off in-addition with the special promo code on the PSU page
$103 shipped 2 x 2GB GSkill 1333 1.5v DDR3
$160 FS XFX HD 5770 1GB
$45 FS Samsung Spinpoint F3 250GB - there's no HDD in your parts list, but you didn't mention you're reusing one either.
$32 shipped Samsung DVD burner
$140 Auzentech Forte, will not be easy to find in-stock.

Total = $521 without the hard disk.
Total = $575 with the hard disk

EDIT: please be clear next time what you need in the $500 budget. I got off on a tangent because you immediately started talking about the Core i5 combo, even though it's not actually included in your $500 budget.

Sorry about that. I fixed my post to account for the motherboard and CPU. I knew I forgot about something. Added the hard drive to the parts list. So basically I need recommendations for everything else except the motherboard and cpu. $500 budget.

If you want a sound card like the Auzentech, and you insist on gaming at 1080p, my build is as good as you're going to get anywhere near $500 online. You're going to have to pay the extra, or drop the dedicated sound card.

$140 is a drain on any gaming budget, especially one as tight as yours. I've done what I can to get you low prices on the other parts, but the soundcard is one wall I cannot move.

What default said: What matters more: good sound or significantly better gaming performance?

heh... bastos... anyhow, I'd suggest dropping the soundcard and trying onboard HD Audio first. Most gamers don't need a discrete soundcard these days.

Which model pioneer do you have?

If you have problems with the board, I'd simply RMA it to Gigabyte or back to Fry's for a NIB version, since that board has USB3.0 and SATA600 -- plus, u got it for a great deal.

Cool, I guess I can make do without the sound card. Enginurd, I have the 5020FD. I guess I'll use the money I would've used towards the sound card for a better video card, like the 5850.

Smart idea. defaultluser's build still applies: just drop the sound card and up the video card to the HD 5850.

And spend the exrtra $5 for a larger and faster drive:
$50 - Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
