Hi Guys,

I am looking into buying a new computer that will be used for gaming and HD content. I just wanted to get a second opinion before I finalized my purchase and was hoping for your input.

Components:

AMD Phenom II X4 965
ASUS M4A79 Deluxe
2 X 2048 OCZ DDR3 (1600Mhz) Gold low voltage
Cooler Master V8 CPU Cooler
Western Digital Caviar Blue 640 GB
Sappire ATI Radeon HD5850
OCZ 600W SLI ready PS
Thermal Take Shark Chassis

I will be using Windows 7 for this system. I am just wondering if there are any other itmes I should be looking at using instead of these models. I live in Canada.

Thanks in advance for your help

It would help if you answered the stickied "ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FIRST" so that we can help you better.

But from skimming the setup, it's not that good for the money, even for Canada. The worst part of that build would have to be the OCZ PSU.

Answer the questions, but like Danny said, scrap the ocz psu. Scrap the HDD, and scrap the ocz ram.

RAM:

PSU:

Do you really want to pay an extra $45 for 400mhz of speed?
check our your alternatives:

Also look for combo deals on everything! (especially if you are buying from newegg.ca)

BTW How much are you paying for that case? Are you set on it? There are plenty of better full tower cases out there.

Bah another edit: How much are you paying for that V8?

Is significantly cheaper and will provide similar cooling power.

Sorry about that guys,

I was at work and didn't want to catch heat from the boss and I totally missed the sticky. Here is some more information for you.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
This computer will be used for gaming, web browsing, HD content and possibly as a media server.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
My budge is $1000 including tax but I might be able to talk my wife into slightly more if it is necessary.
3) Where do you live?
Guelph, Ontario, Canada
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
I need:
CPU
RAM
MOBO
GPU
CPU Cooler
Hard Drive
Windows 7
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I will be reusing my TT Shark tower that I custom painted for my old system. I will also be reusing my almost new 600W OCZ SLI ready power supply
6) Will you be overclocking?
My plan is definitely to do some OC.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
I currently have a 22 inch monitor but I do have the ability to connect this to my 46 Inch main viewing tv. Which will hopefully be upgraded to a 60" Plasma in the near future.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Immediately
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
I would like SLI readiness. 7.1 or even 7.2 audio.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
I do not have an OS that I can use. I was planning on getting Windows 7

I would totally go with a phenom II x4 955. You can sub out the budget end ocz ram for some gskill and probally save a bit of cash. I would get a different hard drive if that is going to be the only one you have. I would suggest at least a wd caviar black. I personally prefer xfx and HIS for gpu manufacturer. As far as heatsink goes, I think you would get better performance out of a coolermaster Hyper 212 and it is cheaper to boot.

My big thing with this computer is that I would rather do this once every 5 years (my last rig made it 6 yrs!!!) instead of every other. My plan with this is to OC the CPU to 3.8 and the GPU to the equivalent of an HD 5870. The guy I usually buy my components off of said that this setup would be totally capable of these numbers. The total on this system is going to come to 1150 tax in versus 1330 for the exact same stuff at newegg. I just want to know if you guys think this is a competent system that will work for several years to come. I am aware that eventually I made need to add a second GPU and possible upgrade the PSU.

Ok, no matter what that OCZ PSU has to be replaced. Unless that OCZ PSU is part of the Z series, most of OCZ's 600W PSUs are of pretty low quality barely capable of 500W
