youtube/hulu/netflix. Also games such as planetside 2 and newer FPS's coming out

Im going to pick out my own Lian-li midtower with front usb 3.0. monitor, mouse and keyboard, ill make sure whatever video card suggested will fit.

No. I am contemplating windows 8 but only if windows is going to stop supporting windows 7 or if 8 has performance increase. Don't want to use any metro interface and kinda want a start menu.

Also, down the line wanted the video card to be able to handle a 3 monitor eyefinity in games once I get the 2 extra monitors.

Do note that if you plan on using more than 16GB of RAM, you will need to get Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8 Pro as Windows 7 Home Premium and regular Windows 8 are limited to 16GB of RAM max.
 
whoops, yeah include that case as part of the budget, looks like it'll run ~$120. Looking at 3 different onces. newegg part numbers LIAN LI PC-7FN

Might be able to build around the 1st of January

I suppose I'll do a 4gb x 2 then for now.

I shooting for a Radeon HD 7970.

I chose the 2 x 8GB sticks of RAM for a little future proofing. If i need to upgrade to WIN 8 pro in the future to get more than 16gb I'll just do that.

I just have no idea about what motherboard, PSU, and SSDs to get. Any suggestions? I have about $1000 left for these, the video card, PSU, 2 x SSDs, and motherboard. I can go over so as not to sacrifice a good plan though. Thanks for input.
 
Why get Window 8 Pro now to save you some money now?

Since you're not overclocking, no reason for you to get the Core i5 3570K. You'll be fine with the Core i5 3470:
$185 - Intel Core i5-3470 CPU

Motherboard wise, I recommend this mobo:
$110 - MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 ATX Motherboard

PSU wise, I recommend this:
$120 - Corsair HX650 650W Modular PSU

As for the SSDs, I recommend the Crucial m4, Samsung 840 Pro, Intel 520, or Plextor M5S/M5P series SSDs.

The only problem with that is that the discount applies only to the upgrade program. That means that the OP must have had a previous version of Windows installed on that planned build in order to be eligible for the discount. Otherwise, a full system builder copy of Windows 8 Pro will cost even more than the OEM Windows 8. If he were to install a discounted upgrade copy of Windows 8 Pro on that new build, activation will fail because that system never had an older version of Windows installed in the first place.

By the way, 64-bit editions of Windows 8 are no longer limited to 16GB total. The non-Pro edition of Windows 8 now supports up to 128GB of RAM while Windows 8 Pro supports up to 512GB of RAM.

Danny Bui, would you suggest the same motherboard if I were to overclock this 3570k processor in the future? I'm guessing it would probably do the trick.

Also, anyone against using like 5 year old Noctue NT-H1 thermal paste for a new build?
It's box says don't store for more than 2 years before use. Suppose I'll just check temps after building.
 
If you insist on buying the i5-3570K and you plan on overclocking, I recommend the following board instead:

$140 - Asus P8Z77-V LK

But if you have no intentions on overclocking at all, you really don't need either the i5-3570K or the P8Z77-V LK. What Danny Bui recommended earlier could easily outperform your old rig.

I personally don't like to reuse thermal compound that I've had for more than three years. You may try out the NT-H1 compound yourself, but what's stopping you from buying another, newer tube?
 
If you intend on overclocking you'll need an aftermarket HS/F anyway and most of those come with thermal compound that's good enough such as the CM 212+ and Evo coolers.

And DDR3 2133 at that? Hope the OP realizes his "upgrade" is only going to be noticeable in his wallet.
 
Why did you buy ten mobos and horribly overpriced RAM?

If possible, cancel that order. If someone convinced you to buy all that, they were trying to screw you over or don't know any better.

jk guys, buying on monday. Probably go with Danny's mobo/cpu suggestion and the two 8GB sticks. I'll get a list together.
 
Omit the NT-H1 thermal compound. The thermal compound that's on the Intel CPU cooler is fine for your needs.

I have no issues with your build list. (Good job finding the Samsung 840 Pro on sale.) But I defer to Danny Bui on this one.
