Hi, I'm a newcomer looking to build my first pc

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming/Web Surfing/Video

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
~$1200 shipping included.

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
New York, Brooklyn

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

Case
Motherboard
GPU
RAM
Optical drive
CPU
HDD
Power supply
Monitor

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I have the mouse and keyboard.

6) Will you be overclocking?
No.

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
LED 1080p at least 21"

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Next couple of weeks

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support?
USB 3.0, SATA 6 gbps

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No, Windows 7 64-bit home

I'm justified if the final price is anywhere ~1200. No idea what parts to get yet (with the exception of core) so much help needed! thanks

Intel Core i5-3570k

Since you're not overclocking, no reason for you to get a K series Intel CPU outside of really special deals. Speaking of said special deals...
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
New York, Brooklyn

Are you located near any of these New York Microcenter locations?
http://microcenter.com/site/stores/westbury.aspx

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Next couple of weeks
All right, please come back in a week and then bump up this thread. By then we'll know what Newegg's October combo deals and what Microcenter's (if you live near one) October CPU + mobo deals will be. Those deals can and do save you a bit of money.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No, Windows 7 64-bit home
So is the cost of the OS part of that $1000 budget as well?

nope, the closest one is 2 hours away and yes the OS is part of the 1000 budget. also, do you think i should wait until black friday to purchase my parts?

Not really to be honest. From what I've seen, the Black Friday deals over the past 4 years have been crap for computer hardware. The few BF deals that exists for computer hardware are often for hardware that are kinda crap to being with or you have to deal with a stupid MIR. You would really have to be a major deal hunter, lucky, and know a ton about computer hardware to make a BF PC really worthwhile.

Ugh, now that I thought about it ~1000 budget isn't really gonna cut it. OS costs about 100 + monitor which is around 200 that leaves me with only about 700 bucks for parts+shipping. I want to spend around ~900 for parts+shipping so increasing my budget to 1200 will be good enough right?
PS: Also, without the combo deals, can u list the parts that I should get because my PC is malfunctioning already, so I might have to build it before my PC dies

$1200 is good enough.

The combo deals influence what parts I might recommend. In other words, I might recommend an entirely different but possibly better part due to it being part of a combo deal.

Are you ready to buy everything either tonight or tomorrow (the last day for the current NewEgg specials)? If so, Danny Bui or I could come up with something for you.

kk, i've chosen some parts from newegg/amazon to start off

Graphics Card- EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1461-KR GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card ~170

Core-Intel Core i5-3570 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz ~215

Case- COOLER MASTER HAF 922 RC-922M-KKN3-GP Black Steel + Plastic and Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with USB 3.0 and Black Interior ~100

Memory-G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL ~80

Motherboard-ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS~150

Power Supply-CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650M 650W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Semi Modular High Performance Power Supply~110

DVD RW-Asus 24xDVD-RW Serial ATA Internal OEM Drive DRW-24B1ST (Black)~22

OS- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM~100

overall price end up to be around 1227, plus shipping maybe 1270. I can swap my case for a cheaper one tho, and this is my first time building a computer so I would like an easy install case. any feedbacks?

Swap the CPU and that DVD burner for this CPU + DVD burner combo instead:
$210 - Core i5 3470 CPU + Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/A DVD Burner

Swap the motherboard and OS for this MSI mobo and OS combo instead:
$200 - MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 ATX Motherboard + Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit OEM

That Nvidia is fairly overpriced when the significantly faster HD 7850 doesn't cost that much more:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102999

Drop that Coolermaster case and go for any of these other better cases (in terms of quality, cable management, features, etc) instead:
$75 - Corsair Carbide Series 300R ATX Case
$95 - Corsair Carbide Series 400R ATX Case
$100 - Antec 1100 ATX Case
$105 - Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Arctic White ATX Case
$105 - Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Titanium Grey ATX Case
$110 - Fractal Design Define R4 with Window Black Pearl ATX Case
$110 - Fractal Design Define R4 Arctic White ATX Case
$110 - Fractal Design Define R4 Titanium Grey ATX Case
$110 - Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl ATX Case
$110 - Corsair Carbide Series 500R ATX Case

That PSU is overpriced for the quality you're getting. You have modest power needs so you'll be fine with this PSU:
$57 - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W PSU

However if you really want a modular PSU for better cable management, then go with this PSU instead:
$90 - SeaSonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W Modular PSU

Either way you're saving money. The combo deals I mentioned above expire on October 1st.

There's a promo code for that $10 cheaper RAM that knocks off another $10. So you're really saving $20 there if you buy before October 1st. Yes at that price get that cheaper RAM. However note that you will be maxed out on RAM as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit is limited to only 16GB of RAM. So forget about the upgrade potential and just focus on the price.

should i get a cpu cooler?

If your home is often hot or warm during the Spring and Summer months, then yes you should get a 3rd party CPU cooler. If that's the case, I recommend the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ for $30.

does anyone know where i plug this cable in? I think its the led for front fans, but my motherboard doesn't have a input for it

no one knows what that cable is?? please help it's my first time building a comp and I have no idea where to plug this thing in(this cable is from my case)

I don't recognize it. Though my best guess: It's probably not important to worry about. When the PC doesn't boot or start, that's when you can start worrying about that cable.

It would help if you told us what the specs of your PC is.
