1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
PC Gaming (Diablo 3, Skyrim, BF3 if it ever comes to steam, and others), Web Browsing, Folding when not gaming.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
My attempts at configuring this build have ended up around $1000 pre tax and shipping. Lower is obviously better!

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
Rome, New York, USA. Nothing but a bestbuy nearby.

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU (i7-2600K preferred)
Motherboard
PSU
Case
RAM
HDD
SSD
DVD/CD Burner
Aftermarket Heatsink

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
MSI R6970 Lightning Radeon HD 6970 2GB
Keyboard
Mouse

6) Will you be overclocking?
Yes. Certainly not going all out but I'd like to get up in the general area that everyone else has on the 2600K (4GHz+).

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1920x1200 24" Monitor, probably around the christmas time frame i would like to go to a 3x 24" monitor (5760x1200/1080) setup. I am unsure if the 6970 will handle that much by itself (in say, Skyrim or BF2/BF3), so I'd like the option to toss in a second one if performance isn't up to par (this would affect Motherboard and PSU choice).

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Initial order with the components listed in (4 will be this coming weekend (Oct 22) or next weekend (Oct 29), or sooner if there's any deals to be had.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
NEED: SATA III, Crossfire
Would like: USB3, UEFI BIOS, Drop in/BIOS update IvyBridge (I'm not sure if this is possible)

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yes, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

After lurking in several other build threads I have the following components picked out and few questions/concerns:

HDD: $65 - HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.D 1TB 7200 RPM

SSD: $220 - Crucial M4 128GB SATAIII
CD/DVD Drive: $19 - ASUS 24X DVD Burner

RAM: $35 - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)

CPU: $315 - i7-2600K, Amazon has this for about $300 last I checked.
Heatsink: $72 - CORSAIR CWCH50-1 High Performance CPU Cooler

PSU: $94 - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W (10% off code, 10/19)
-or-
$70 - Antec NEO ECO 620C 620W

Case: $90 - Cooler masterCM690 II Advanced
-or-
A Lian Li Case per this thread. Several of the cases on sale are on Danny's case list as well.

Questions:
1) For the SSD, is the M4 a good choice? Benchmarks are showing the vertex 3 as "faster" but in several threads I have been seeing BSOD issues on the Sandforce controller.

2) Will IvyBridge work on the 1155 socket that the i7-2600k works on? So down the road I can drop in (with a bios update) a new, better, CPU?

3) Will a 6970 push a 5670x1200/1080 setup on newer games by itself?

4) The 6970 Lightning is very long, it did not fit in my Antec 300, pliars + screwdriver made it fit, I'd rather not have to go through that again. Do I need a Full tower for this card (or cardS in the future).

5) Is the Corsair H-50 good enough for running 80% of the time at full load on an OCd 2600k? I am willing to buy another fan or two to go push-pull on it or anything else.

Thank you in advance for any help! I'm bad at finding the combos, so feel free to find some deals ;)

(PS, Danny, could you please post your case list? I'm referencing it from another thread and it's a hassle. Thanks!)

1. Yes, The M4s and Intel 510s are the best choices when it comes to SSDs.
2. Yes some Ivy Bridge chips will work on 1155.
3. It will play at 5670 (I'm assuming you mean 5760 as in three 1080P monitors), but don't expect to turn up the juice on some of the most newest games as a single GPU will be struggling with the latest games. Assuming you plan on playing on all three monitors at once.
4.It will fit in the CM 690 II Advanced case.
5.The H50 will be a fine choice, but do note there is room for two 240x120 rads in the CM 690 II Advanced case...

The rest of the build looks good by the way, but I am assuming you do realize you wont notice a gaming difference between a 2500k and a 2600k, so unless you just want to get higher PPD with F@H, no real reason to spend the money on a 2600k for gaming.

Thanks for responding Skillz!

Yeah, I meant 3 1920x1200(or 1920x1080) side by side. That's kindof what i was expecting, it's a little much to ask of one card.

4.It will fit in the CM 690 II Advanced case.

Any idea if it will fit in the other cases on Danny's list? Maybe he's better to ask that of.

I do want the 2600k for folding, but an extra $100 is kinda difficult to justify especially with the SSD eating up another $200. It does, however, give me some longevity to the system that the 2500k may or may not provide.

I did a little more snooping around on Newegg and found this motherboard, any thoughts?
ASUS P8Z68-V LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

It has SATAIII, USB3, and "3" PCIE2 slots that appear to be spaced well enough to not directly stack two dual slot cards on top of eachother.

Very solid motherboard.

Oh and that $35 G.Skill RAM is sold out. And when it does come back in stoc, it's not gonna have that price. So I recommend this RAM:
$42 - G.Skill Value Series F3-10666CL9D-8GBNT 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM

I'd go with the 2500k, they O/C just as well as the 2600k

And newegg currently has a 15$ off coupon for the 2500k. I just bought mine today for 205$. Thats a 110$ savings you can put towards other stuff

I believe OP was looking at the 2600K instead of 2500K due to the folding aspect. There's not a difference in gaming, but there would be for that.
