Yes, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Have absolutely no idea where to start, been so long since I've parted out a build that I do not know what to do.

Like was said in the answers, would like to keep it around 800-900, but I can go a bit more if its a significant gain in performance.

Thanks in advance

$190 - Intel Core i5-4570 quad-core processor
$75 - MSI B85M-G43 micro ATX motherboard
$73 - Kingston HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
$299 - XFX Double D R9-280X-TDFD Radeon R9 280X video card
$60 - XFX TS P1550SXXB9 550 watt power supply
$65 - Corsair 230T ATX mid-tower case
=====
$762 - Total before taxes and shipping

If you wish to go with Nvidia, here are your alternatives:

$240 - MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce 760 2GB video card
$310 - MSI N770 TF 2GD5/OC GeForce 770 2GB video card (the direct competitor to the R9 280X)

Do you need any additional storage?

Haven't had a need to expand beyond the 500gb of the Samsung yet. Can be added down the road if I run out of space.

Thanks for the quick assistance. Been quite awhile since I've put together a machine.

I'm not sure why people are recommending that board. Something like the Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H or Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H might more tempting.

Well the most obvious reason is that the MSI mobo is a full $25 cheaper than the H97-D3H and $45 cheaper than the Z97-D3H.

The only real loss you're seeing with the MSI over the GIgabytes are the Intel NICs that comes with both Gigabyte mobos and the overclock capability with the Z97-D3H. However, since the OP isn't overclocking nor are any of the non-K Core i5 CPUs actually overclockable, really no reason whatosever to go with the Z97-D3H in this situation.
