wow..... an fx 55 @ 3ghz and an x800xt@ 6xx/6xx..... where do u live? ;)

JER, thats an Incredible screenshot I'm curious how you made the decision to go with the 4200EL. Reviews? A particular thread? You're making me take another look at my budget for my Q1 '05. Not sure how I can fit a FX-55 in there. Hopefully something will compel AMD to drop prices in late winter. :p

Grab yourself some Mushkin BH5 and get some better timings on that. 2.5-3-3-8 @ 275 style ;)

I tried the Gskill, maybe I didnt give it enough time. So I got this just because.

a64 processors are faster when ram timings are x-x-x-10. change that 4th number to 10 and you should be faster and stableer, as it's a looser timing. i assume your ram is runnign at 2T, not 1T?

whoa. what ram areyou using? what mobo? psu? what cooling? this is incredible. would youcare to give us some hl2 or 3dmark benchies?

Read the sig, and then go to the ORB and ARC threads and see the scores.

And yeah, I'm happy to have ya bro.....that memory bandwidth is sick though....very nice. I can't wait....about a week and I'll have my 3.4E running at 4.25GHz. :D Seeing as I'll only be at 250fsb to hit 4.25GHz I'm seriously gonna start looking for some BH5 so that after I do a quick OVP mod to my board I'll be able to do 250fsb 1:1 with 2-2-2-5 timings.

I know where to get BH5, but I'm poor and shooting myself for it. I also missed out on a $399 Mach II yesterday due to lack of money :(

That's nice stuff SIK, you seem to get lucky with your parts often ;) My Ballistix hits 240 @ 2.5-3-2-11, but if I put my FSB higher my PC says that Windows files are corrupt... still trying to fix that so I can go higher, even though at 2.7 I'm unstable... actually I think I'm unstable at this 2.64 too... I need new PC parts ;)

Run that Ballistix at cas 3 and it will go higher. You wont take a hit if you go high enough. See. This is my Ballistix pc4000. I dont get lucky often, I just buy often. :D

what do you think could be done with my mushkin blue line pc3200 single stick 512mb? mushkintech support saidit had "mosel 5ns chips." i've been running memtest for the past few hours, and, with vdimm @ 2.8 (though board overvolts to 2.89 or so) I get errors with it @ 230 2.5-3-3-10-2T (no abit kv8-pro seems to run 1T above 220 mhz, and mine wasn't stable past 206). check my sig for rig specs. proc is newcastle, cg stepping, this oc is 230 fsb x 10, vcore 1.65. htt multiplier is at 3x. i'd love to be able to run 230 stably, and it would ideally hit 240 or higher. what shouldi do to boost oc and stability? ram is rated for 2-3-3 @ ddr400.

i just ran over to my comp to see how memtest was doing (i'm typing on bro's comp) and, with 2.5-3-2-10-2T (2.8 v) with cpu @ 225 (2.625 v) there were hundreds of thousands of errors. i assume it's becasue of the 3-2 as oppossed to 3-3 (is that why tons of people tell me to keep the third and fourth values equal?)! seems to be ok again now that i restarted it with 2-3-3-10. running 2-2-2 has never worked, and, with this ram, i doubt it ever will. i'm not going to be able to get more ram for a while, so i want to do all i can with what i've got.

James, how do you afford all that stuff? Drug dealer on the side? ;)

I could run my ram at CAS3, although I don't think it'd help any. If I go even to 242 FSB and try to boot it says Windows/System/blah blah.dll is missing or invalid. It gives me random errors for random Windows core files. Not sure what's going on with that, but it isn't the ram. I can boot at 2.7, 2.64 is bench stable, and 2.58 seems to be 100% stable so far, kind of dissapointed I couldn't hit 2.6 on air though 100% stable :(

My Sandra results :

210 Mhz - 2-3-2-5 : 6298 / 6246
220 Mhz - 2.5-3-2-11 : 6552 / 6496
235 Mhz - 2.5-3-2-11 : 6812 / 6718

Haven't done it at bench (2.64, 240 Mhz), I think it's over 7000 though. If only I had me some BH5 and a DDR Booster ;)

Ha ha, very funny. I work hard and hide money from the little woman! :D Just try 3.3.3.10, if not go 3.4.3.10. It should work, and give the ram 2.85+

2.85v is mobo max, don't have a DDR booster and am too lame to do hard vmods. It has nothing to do with my ram (the fact I can't get above 240 FSB). When I boot it says that Windows is corrupt, I'm thinking it has to do with something else (K8N Neo2, SATA 3/4 used), just haven't figured out what yet (xtremesystems.org takes fucking FOREVER to add you to the usergroup, I still can't make posts and I registered like a week ago, says I'm in the 'moderation queue' waiting to be confirmed... sigh).

So what is wrong with your system? I would do some card work. The FX-53's usually crap out at 2.6 so you are doing good.

Not sure why it's doing that, I want to post at xtremesystems, but like I said, I don't have those rights yet (can login fine, can't post  ). If you mean video card it's been stable all this time, I'm thinking it's a mobo issue perhaps with the SATA ports.

 FX-55 @ 3.1GHz? *so jealous*

Seeing this thread makes me want to attempt an OC on my *lame* 3400+ s754 ;) One question I must ask you, oh master oc'er...my ram runs 3-3-3-8...would 3-3-3-10 help my ability to overclock? also, my vdimm only goes up to like 1.85v i think, and the motherboard blinks the scary red's at like 1.75+ i think...which scares me lol. Just need a hint from someone grabbing an AMD processor by the neck and shaking it like it owes you money :p

Don't run at over 1.7 without proper cooling. Make sure your temps don't get above 55C or so. As far as I know on AMD systems, the final number in latency makes little to no difference in your overclocking ability. 3-3-3-8 is extremely loose, using -10 wouldn't make a difference, vdimm at 1.85v max is standard as well, should be OK on that.

My ram auto's at 1.6v i THINK...by cooling do you mean heat spreaders, or just case tempatures? My case has plenty of fans moving air around, but the ram is naked as a newborn so that could be an issue...im not looking for an insane overclock, just want what my parts can give me without pushing them too hard.

And yes, those timings are pretty garbage, but it was the first thing I purchsed for my machine and had been out of the recent tech loop, and now I know better :p But I'm lucky I've got a 3400+ and not a 2800+ and try to get that to my current or higher speeds on this memory.

By 1.7v I mean your CPU voltage (vcore). Don't let the CPU get over 55C or so or you'll be asking for trouble, RAM should be fine up to 2.85v as far as cooling goes.

That's just what I was going to say about the voltages too...most likely a repeat typo. ;)

I also agree on the temps....if my CPU's max load (dual Prime95 for 100% load) temp ever hits or clears 60C I back things off.

Well damn, that's the area where my CPU's temps are now on the stock cooler....damn you stock cooler giving minimal cooling :( But that largely depends on my room temp, plus A64's seem to have very tempermental thermal readings...i've seen it running idle at 28C, and as high as 48C...and all on the same 1.4 bios of my MSI K8N Neo Plat. Blah, well, I'll investigate my temps and decide where to go from there. Appriciate the insight guys :)

You could also just pick up a 5.25" thermal monitoring device and rig it up so that the thermal probe is crammed in the edge where the heatspreader and chip meet on your CPU.....at least that way you can be sure the results are staying a little most consistent.

Note: If you get a thermal device that has the probe built the "right" way you should also just be able to have the probe directly UNDER the cpu, taped to the bottom of it, for a more accurate reading.

How drastic of a performance hit is 1T vs. 2T? I have BH-5, but until I upgrade mobo/proc the most I can give the stuff is 2.8v (overvolts to 2.88v). At 2-2-2-5-1T I can only get to about 210 stabally. I have booted as high as 220, but prime95 flipped out after about 30 seconds. Would swithing to 2T let me go a lot higher and the volts I am limited to or is this stuff just a diamond in the rough till I get a board that supports a DDR Booster?

It would have to big a pretty big jump.

I agree, and it's little stuff like that that's making me want to go A64, cus there's a bundle of little tweak options that I don't have to/get to deal with with my P4, it's almost like it's too simple to overclock...not enough options to make things work. :D

Nice work James. Damn, gotta' get me an FX-55, but that is allocated for the SLI build. Gotta' be patient I guess.

Anyway, just for comparison sake, I tried this new RAM from PQI, and it runs up to 290 FSB or so with 2.85V, with 2.5-3-3-7 1T timings. It was the Turbo 2-2-2-5 DDR 3200. I wonder how this would do in your system since I have the same motherboard.
