I have a friend that is asking me to build up a new system for him. He is a Mac guy, but is heavily into flight sims that use a lot of CPU and less GPU. I don't have experience with flight sims, so the CPU vs. GPU comment is from him. I have been out of the build loop for about a year, so I am not really sure what to recommend to him. I have searched this forum and have a few ideas, but I want to ask the experts what they think the build should be. I have preferences for an Intel CPU here. I have answered the questions from the sticky in BOLD below.
Thanks in advance for any help,
TF
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Almost exclusively Flight Simulators
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$2.5k to $3.5k including monitor
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
USA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
New case, MB, HD for storage, SSD for OS and sim, RAM, CPU, vid card, DVDRW, PS, Heat Sink, Monitor.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
None
6) Will you be overclocking?
Possible in the future
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
Need new monitor.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Within the next month or so.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
USB3.0, SATA 6Gb/s, decent onboard sound
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No license. Will be using Win7 64bit.
