I just got my new u3011 30' monitor and got it setup. It was supposed to have been calibrated at the factory and has a certificate saying it was.... however... everything has a blue tint to it.

Is there a self recalibration on this thing I can hit? If not, whats the best way to calibrate a monitor like this?

What factory preset are you using? My u3011 movie preset is really blue and my custom is really orange but my sRGB is almost perfect.

DarkCloud is correct. The sRGB preset and Adobe RGB presets are factory calibrated so try those out. They are what is listed on the sheet included with your screen.

The standard preset is not, and you can customize the RGB values if you need to and attempt to fix this issue.

what preset should I be looking at if I primarily game and surf the net? I don't do any photoshop or video editing

I heard sRGB is the way to go....but to me, the "standard" preset looks better....i dunno, the sRGB looks real washed up with many different colors

That's because sRGB is what things are supposed to look like. All the other modes are wide gamut modes, and when you have a wide gamut screen on Windows, you get over-saturated, "blown out" colors, except in programs that support color-management with the right ICM profile.

So one might look better (custom/Adobe RGB/standard) but the other one (sRGB) is the accurate one for every day, Windows use.

Either way you can use what you like. The Adobe RGB mode is calibrated at least so the white point should be decently accurate.

Honestly I would say use what you like best. Personally I like over saturated colors because real life is boring and I don't want my monitor to look like real life. Now if I was doing photo/video work that would be different since you need accuracy.

thanks! I'll just start off with Standard then

You are right...when I switch over the sRGB, it looks just like real life....nothing is over saturated and blown out of proportion....but I dunno, my eyes are looking for "rich colors" and the sRGB mode just doesn't provide it....granted sRGB is probably real accurate, its just not for me

Thanks for the input guys...Does anyone use Game Mode?

I actually prefer the Wide gamut look, after initially fearing I would hate it when I got my U3011. There is more saturation, but it does not look 'over' saturated by any means.

which preset do you prefer?

Well, I use custom color, with just a slight tweaking (I don't know anything about monitor calibration, and certainly do not own a hardware calibration tool, I just go by what looks best to me)

I do have rev. A02, but it has yet to get any custom color problems.

yeah the A02 and up should be just fine. my A02 is fine...and plenty of others don't report any issues either...although I do remember one or two rare instances of an A02 being bad
