The rest I'll put towards a new widescreen LCD, I'm thinking a Dell 20" or 22". Is it worth it to sell this old but still nice 19" NEC Multisync E900?

i guess u should choose E6300 for better performance by pay more just $15~~

LCD ...~ Dell 22" widescreen is better ~ in my opition

Ah yeah, that HDD looks better... one of the few parts I didn't do too much research on.

I've gone back and forth between the E4300 and E6300... you can find so many reviews saying either one is better... E4300 is supposed to be easier to OC w/ cheap ram though, because of the higher multiplier, etc.... E6300 is only $15, but not completely sold on it yet

And yes... I would definitely go for the 22", but it's like $70.... I would love to do it

my poor english .... i mean 6300 is expensive than 4300 just $15~ 6300 cost $184

I got an E4300 and I got no complaints... 3.33Ghz @ 1.5vcore on air. There is only 1 reason to get the E6300...$$$. If you got the money to get the mobo.memory combo to take that chip to its limits then do it. If you are happier with a lower FSB and an overall speed that might be a smidge slower, then get the E4300.

jbmx4life~ we are on the same boat
~ though 6300 cost much money ~ it has good performance on OC too ~
just $15 price difference so choose 6300 is a sensible choice
and presently 4300 is too expensive ~ the orientation of 4300 is instead of PD 9xx ~

Choosing the E6300 is not really a sensible choice depending upon the rest of your components. I bought a $110 mobo that can't hit 400FSB since it is a very new board. Maybe there will a BIOS update later on that will let it go higher. So look at it like this.... say my mobo can do 400FSB max. E6300 on 7x multi does 400FSB*7 = 2.8Ghz and E4300 on 9x multi does 400FSB*9 = 3.6Ghz (not in reality but you get what I mean).

thats ture ... ~ as if a porche running on a winding mountain road ... depending on other things ~

Well with my setup, DS3 and DDR2800 Ram, I'm guessing that I will have much more success with the E4300. Even TomsHardware only got their E6300 to 3.3 Ghz, and the E4300 with that would have been maybe 3.6-3.8, just guessing (I don't know, it's funny I'm saying they "ONLY" got when that's actually a huge 1.5GHZ OC... woohoo)

So I'm still undecided. Probably have to do some more research

Well if you want an easy OC then go with the E4300 and you can stay under 400FSB. If you really want the higher FSB then go for the E6300.

there are 2 kind of DS3 ~ choose 3.3version ..~ (im not sure if in ur country so ~ but me here have 2 kind)

I'm ordering from Newegg... and I would LOVE to be able to order the newest revision... but I've seen from other posts that there is no guarantee when you order... so I could be getting either Rev 1, Rev 2, OR Rev 3.3.... We'll have to wait and see. That made me a little hesitant about the DS3, but I'm not sure there's any other ones I like, Gigabyte seems to have pretty good quality. I've heard bad quality issues with Biostar. MSI I'm not sure about, my last mobo I had from them died within a year, although that may have been due to a power supply that went bad and a seized fan on the video card... but oh well.

DS3 sounds good to me

Exactly correct, you should only be looking at E4300 vs E6400 (or better) with the ram you have selected.

Why 2 HD's ? Raid 0 I bet. Why in the world would you buy the best video card out there and match it up with the cheapest CPU (even if it does OC well) with Raid 0. I doubt your game level will load all that much faster.

IMO Get one good fast large drive, and the 6400

No, no raid... I've done research on Raid, and from what I've seen it's widely-viewed as something to speed things up, but in reality only can cause potential problems and doesn't have ANY real-world speed effect. So no... but yes, I was going to pop in that 7200.10 320 GB that someone up top mentioned.

As for the CPU, I'm still not completely sure... I read some more posts on the subject, and apparently cheap ram is DDR2 667, and 800 is ok for the e6xxx series... sigh, I don't know. I'm coming from AMD from like when the 64 cpu's came out... I'm upgrading from a 3000+ @ 2.5 Ghz... so I'm sure I'm going to see a drastic improvement whatever I get

E6400 though is about $50 over the E4300... and I'm pretty sure any decent OC on the e4300 will be able to keep up enough with the 8800 GTS... I read one review of the e4300 where they got a 110% increase in speed, 3.8 Ghz or something crazy like that... all you need is an aftermarket cooler/decent mobo and some decent ram

May i ask why you poeple buy such power hungry powersupplys?
You dont need more then 350-400.

Citizen86, I just bought almost the same exact setup. You can get the DS3 Revision 3.3 from ClubIT for $132.88 (w/ Shipping), which is a few bucks cheaper than NewEgg:

I suggest you set your expectations around 3.2 - 3.4 but hey, you could get lucky , hope so. :D

I agree with you exactly on the Raid good call.

its all about the ram. Hopefully this will help you decide, I recommend PC6400 5 5 5 15 regardless of which processor you go with. the 4 4 4 12 is nice but you will never know the difference unless you intend to push it all to the edge and then the 4 4 4 12 is good only because you can usually loosen the timings to 5 5 5 15 and get the machine to boot. The C2D chipsets are very unsensitive to memory bandwith and timings, its always better to max out the cpu and run a 1:1 (sync, really 2:1 cpu runs FSB x mulit, memory runs FSB x 2) memory divider and let the memory speed end up where ever the cpu reaches.

The hidden point below is that almost any decent board should do 400FSB once you get above 425 some start to get finicky and it never pays to run the stuff at the hairy edge anyway.

4300 has mulit of 9 so with pc6400 ddr2-800 (400 FSB x 2) you can get to 3.6 before you have to even start overclocking your ram. without doubt this chip has the highest OC potential and places the least stress on other components. However good results over 3.4 are spotty and high voltages (much higher than I like to see) are needed.

6300 has multi of 7 so with pc6400 ddr2-800 (400 FSB x 2) you can get to 2.8 before you have to even start overclocling your ram. to get to 3.2 you now need a FSB of 457 which is starting to be non-trivial for the motherboard and your memory is now overclocked by 114 MHz which will probally require loosening the timings if it will make it there at all. this is least desirable, mb and ram have to be cooking to max out the chip.

6400 has mulit of 8 so with pc6400 ddr2-800 (400 FSB x 2) you can get to 3.2 before you have to even start overclockng your ram. Pretty reliable about getting to 3.2-3.4 at stock or just slightly above stock voltages with good temps. FSB of 425 get you to 3.4 and thats about the limit on air anyway and only a 50MHz memory OC, any decent memory should do that. More there if you want it. Based on the zillion posts of whos chip did what, (and look at my sig, I made the 6300 mistake) this would be my call for a budget OCer. Worth the extra $$? thats your call :p

but the good news is, whatever you do can cant go very wrong, its gonna scream

I agree, I'm not expecting a 110% increase.... they were using a better mobo then a DS3, but from what I've seen around, 3.2-3.4 shouldn't be too difficult I think. I think I want the BUFFALO Firestix, I read some reviews and they're supposed to get up to ddr2 1000 speeds... so that means I could easily oc the e6300... but then I mineaswell go for the e6400... just so much to decide. All I know is that those firestix go fast and I should buy them ASAP whatever I do

purely FYI...

I have two 160 sata1 drives (8mb) in raid-0 and only a p4 3.4@3.7 with 2 gigs of ram and i'm usually the first one in when loading a map in BF2.... which means I get vehicle of my choice. Which is really nice...

the only people who can compete are those who have raptors or a raid0 array as well, and I usually join a squad with an early joiner to ask them what they are running.

Dude, use this promo code for the FireStix to save $20 at Newegg (end price will be $169.99):

EMC220BUFFLO

I just have one thing, I don't know if you ordered the comp or not but I'd change up the case, that ones only got two fans and one is an 80mm which I despise in any computer. Me and a friend just did a build with this case http://www.pricegrabber.com/p__Enermax_ECA3050_Chakra_Black_Mid_Tower,__22032786/search=Chakra I don't know if you want a window or not but he loved it, it was dead silent and well built. Much quiter then my Antec 900. If you want windows and to stay cheap this is my recomendation

Pay a little more -- get the E6400 You will get a much higher overclock.

QFT... RAID 0 has real, benchmark proveable, real world measurable, common sense benefits. What is this sillyness that there is "no point" in RAID 0? Not saying you should go for a RAID 0 setup (esp since you seem to be cutting corners to save money in areas that are more critical like CPU), but RAID 0 obviously gives you faster reads than a single drive. Its just common sense.

have any links to these proveable benchmarks? I have yet to see any
