i just built a new computer (copied chockomonkey's build, minus RAM)-

CPU-AMD Athlon X4 620
MOBO-ASUS M4A87TD
PSU-CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W
RAM-OCZ Gold 1333 DDR3
GPU-Gigabyte GTX 460 1gb

I did all the testing he told me to do and my computer was very stable

Then today i go to turn it on and it will not boot up or POST

The power button and reset buttons don't work

Everything was reseated and we tried again but it didn't work. Also reset the bios.

What else can i try?

Thank you

If it's not posting, and your stock (all auto in the bios), it's probably the RAM settings.

1) Update the bios
2) Set bios to default (this is usually a one step setting in the bios.
3) Manually set the 4 basic ram timings, and the voltage, per the ram manufacturer specs. All else auto.

thank you will try and report back.

edit: i looked at how to update the bios--don't i need to be in the bios to do that?

Follow the stickied "Basic Troubleshooting Guide" on what to do if the PC does not POST. Report back once you've done ALL of the steps described in that part of the guide.

wow that contains so much information, i'll be able to try a lot of things.

Thanks for the link, sorry for having to be told to read a sticky :(

You said the power button doesnt work or the reset button? open the side of the case is there an led on the motherboard that shows that it's actually getting power?

umm, it works to turn the computer on, but not to reset the power or turn it off once it is on. All the LED's do light up, the fans turn on. But i have to use the switch on the back of the power supply to turn it off.

When i built my computer it did exactly what yours did. In my case it was the ram that was causing it not to post so had to play with that for awhile. Finally did post but apparently the memory had to set up in the right combo to do so. Been running/posting fine ever since then.

I've been through the exact same thing....When MBs don't like the RAM spd, you have to manually tweak the ram settings sometimes.

Update:

I followed the first few steps on what to do if my computer won't post.

Setting it up outside the case got it work work instantly. I noticed that i left an extra standoff under my motherboard that (i am guessing now) caused it to act irratically. I removed this standoff and put everything back together, and it seems to be working alright.
