i bought a new computer just recently, ive built it myself and when i try to turn it on the monitor dosent come on. ive tried putting in the indows disc and nothing happens, is it my disc drive? my monitor is VGA and the vga adapter is on my 4870 video card. What do i do ?
 
Try the other port on the GPU if that doesn't work posst all your system spec and reply back
 
No video signal. Do you have the 4870 plugged into the power supply? Make sure the video card is seated properly. Is the computer posting a series of beeps when you turn it on or is it dead silent.
 
im pretty sure i connected everything right, my CPU, Video car and PS fans are all spinning, maybe it could be the VGA adapter????
 
What i always do, is start from scratch, especially when it looks like i might have hardware failure, it can help as well if you have some extra hardware around for testing. This is also why many people like to "bench test" their hardware outside the case before they start installing things. I would take everything apart inspect the rig, reseat everything and go from there.
 
Give us some system specs the crystal ball is somewhat dim today. For sure I need to know the motherboard and PSU you are using.
 
i am using a p5ql pro mother board a quad core 8200 processor and i have a 650 watt power supply along with a 4870 video card
 
i have just fixed what the previous problem was, i have a new polem now. When i boot up the computer it gives me an error message on the screen saying something about the express gate. Then it starts to boot up, the mother board display is on my monitor and then it says "Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key"
 
You have to go into the bios and turn off Express Gate.

Second, you have to go into the bios and tell your computer to boot off of your hard drive. I had an issue like that with my P5Q motherboard and for some reason when I had a USB flash drive inserted, it screwed up my boot priority until I went in and changed it back to boot off of the HDD with my OS on it.

Lol...I don't remember what it looks like in the bios off the top of my head. I think there's a boot tab and there should be two different things you need to check. First, what the boot device priority is (HDD, CD drive, floppy, etc.), and the second, is HDD priority. Make sure if you have multiple HDD's that it's looking at the right one. They are just labeled by model numbers so you might have to do some trial and error to figure out which one it is.
 
i did what you said but its stil giving me the same message also when i turn it on, it says "initializing" and the it says "Hard disc cannot be found" something like that
 
let's eliminate some simple and obvious stuff. did you format your hard drive and install windows?
 
Open your cdrom drive and place your windows installation disc inside. Youll need to set the cdrom first in the boot priority NOT the hard disk. As soon as the cd rom drive is first in boot priority the pc will read the disc when booting up and will depending on your operating system, give you the option to boot to the install disc or will go straight into the installation portion. You dont have any real problems at all, its just standard pc setup stuff! So your hardware should be working as normal, just get the bios settings correct and youll be good to go. By the way your asus manual should give you a bunch of info on your different bios settings i suggest you take dsome time and read through that.
 
ive done everything that you have said and it still dosent work and ive read everything in the manual, it still gives me that same message.:(
 
try a different a different sata cable and then a different power connection or even a different HDD by process of elimination you can determine which component has failed. If you have another mobo or system try to add the HDD to it and see if the drive is recognized.
 
ive tried connecting different cables, nothing has worked, it still gives me that same message. i think it could be my cd rom drive, its not reading the Windows 2002 XP disc. Both plugs are plugged into the cd rom drive though. I have no idea what the problem is.
