I'm just curious to get some feedback on a computer build I'm working on. Can anyone offer suggestions on types of hardware that might be better? Thanks HFers!

Which SSDs are you going with? I didn't think there were any good options at the 360GB capacity.
 
the purpose is to put together the best gaming system on the planet, by using only best parts... while trying to keep under a budget of around $10k. Of course this is crazy, but when your building a dream machine like this, you gotta be a little crazy.

also, ive picked out the OCZ RevoDrive OCZSSDPX-1RVD0360 360GB SSD because it was the hot hardware editors choice.

Could you actually do the format as the rubric says? To be honest you're not even going to see a difference from having that 12 core setup vs a Core i7 990X. You're wasting a lot of your budget on that whole SR2 system. If you want to go crazy you should be looking the 3GB GTX 580s in some kind of SLI configuration with 3 2560x1600 monitors with a 990X powering that. I'm all for outrageous setups, but the amount of money you are putting into that SR2 rig will already be outdated in a couple months when Socket 2011 w/ Sandy Bridge-E comes.

You just blew a lot of money on that RevoDrive too. That is a old generation type of Revo. Even todays Vertex 3 will easily keep up with it. Absolutely no reason to even spend $1,000 on a drive like that anyway. Thats a 30 inch monitor right there. You really should be doing research before blowing money like that.

Josh,

As it stands, that build will be obsolete within six months because the platform itself is now nearly EOL. Socket 1366 will soon be completely replaced by Socket 2011 by the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012 - and the two sockets are totally incompatible with one another. The problem with the initial Socket 2011 desktop motherboards is that they will be effectively limited to 16GB maximum due to those boards having only four DIMM slots.

Some notes for now:
- And the Revo drive is a bad call for the reason xBanzai89 noted
- What's the point of having three GTX 580 if you're NOT using them in SLI?

You want the nicest gaming computer possible for 10k and you chose 1.5gig sli cards? There are 3 gig 580s in existence. At the resolution you are wanting these will be far superior to the 1.5 gig 580s.

I just reread the OP. You are NOT building even close to the best 10k gaming system if you are refusing to SLI your cards and doing a 3 monitor setup.
