Hi, so I'm putting this gaming computer together for my friend who wants to buy it tonight. I talked him into getting a cheaper video card (6850) until the new ones come out. I figured with such a large budget he should gaming at 1900x1200 but I'm a little worried about the reviews on that Hanns-G monitor. Also if the for the CPU if you could recommend a good heatsink or if I even need one for overclocking. Also I'm not sure about the PSU and I've never bought a SSD before. Basically I could use all the help you guys are willing to give me, I am more then willing to radically change any and all parts of the build. Also am I missing anything? Thanks [H]ard

The system works, but the proc and psu seem a bit over kill for someone not doing multi display set ups with SLI or Xfire.

Does he lan or anything? Worth going to a smaller better case? The 900 is dated now and I wasnt a huge fan well I owned it..

Answer these questions please.

Regardless scrap the SSD. That is old by today's standards. Go for the Crucial M4 or Intel 510.

Drop the CPU down to the 2500K as the 2600K does not give any advantage to game performance.

That GD65 mobo is only worthwhile if you need SLI, but you seem to be going AMD so I do not think you need that. The G43 would be perfect.

No reason to get 2GB dimms anymore. Go for the 4GB ones to allow for expansion later on if needed. DDR3 1333 is all you need as nothing higher adds to FPS.

You may want to find another case too. There is plenty of options at that price point that allow for more roomier cases with just as good air flow.

As Kaizer noted consider another PSU. Unless your friend wants go to multi gpu down the road that much power is not needed.

OK thanks for the input, sorry I didn't add all the pertinent info. This is including taxes and shipping and he lives in Cali.
I'll change the X-25 to the 120GB Intel 510, the 2600k to the 2500k, and change to the 4GB dimms. When the new cards come out he will be using SLI. I also forgot to add the win7 64bit basic edition.

What case would you guys recommend, and is a 850 watt PSU enough for SLI down the road?

Yes 850 is more then enough even with 2 580's, He could go in the 700 range and still be fine,

Depends on how much money you want to spend. The Dell U2412M and U2410 are known good 1920x1200 monitors.

I would go for a higher end PSU if you plan on doing anything like a GTX 580 SLI setup in the future. Easily 900W + when overclocking CPU and GPUs. You need the extra watts there, so you are not near the total load the PSU can handle.

Take a look at the Silverstone RV-02. Kyle (owner of the site) seems to like that case quite a bit for SLI setups.

Instead of the Intel 510 - get a Crucial M4. Equal or better performance for $100 less. Even the Intel 320 is a better deal than the 510, which is very overpriced now.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming

1.5-2k tax and shipping included
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
USA, CA
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Whole new computer, cpu, mobo, monitor, ram, video card, case, psu, hdd
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
mouse, keyboard
6) Will you be overclocking?
yes
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1600x1200, not sure on size.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Today or tomorrow
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
SLI
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No, buying win7 64

Since you're in California, I higly recommend that you buy as many parts as possible from Amazon.com since that site does not charge CA residents tax whereas Newegg does.

That PSU is an outdated model. The newer version costs the same and is of higher quality and performance:
