New comp won't boot

I just received my new comp parts today. I put it all together and turned it on and it just goes in circles while booting. I am new to system building and I have no idea how to figure out where the problem is. System is:

MSI P6N Platinum motherboard
MSI NX8800GT video card
GSkill Single channel 2gb DDR2 800mhz
2x PATA Hard Drives in master/slave config
1x PATA cd/dvd drive

Umm what do you mean by "it goes in circles"?

Like it'll boot, then reboot and keep on rebooting?

I cleared the CMOS settings earlier and it did nothing. The mobo has a button for it, so I did that. I also removed the battery and replaced it just to make sure. No change.

I've also tried putting the memory in each slot and it did the same thing in each slot. I may buy some different memory tomorrow and try that out. I have no way to test if the memory is faulty because I only have one.

Other things I have looked up point to it either being the memory or the motherboard. Hopefully it's the memory so I don't have to disassemble the whole thing the day after putting it together.

I have to get some sleep now, but I will be checking this at work tomorrow for any other possible solutions or things to try.

Is it possible that the ram is not compatible with my board? Should I use ram that has been tested with the board? Here is a pdf of ram that MSI tested with my specific board:

Of those I found only one on Newegg that is 2gb that perfectly matched the model number in the pdf:

And I found two 2x1gb:

Don't worry about RAM compability just yet.

Now, strip the PC down to the bare necessities, RAM, Mobo, CPU, one hard drive, one CD drive and video card.

Also, what power supply do you have?

And see if you can buy some RAM locally. It may be more expensive but it's just temporary to see whether or not your RAM is the problem. You can always return the local RAM for a refund.

Best place to go get some would probably be staples they do not charge a restocking fee and you have 14 days to return it

Besides the two hard drives, everything is already stripped down to basics.

mobo, 1 stick of ram, cpu, gpu, 1 cd drive, and 2 hard drives is what I have connected. I was using the hard drives before and they were fine, but I will try only connecting the main drive when I get home. The new parts are the mobo, ram, cpu, and gpu.

Also, the power supply is a Corsair 550vx, which is also new.

I was actually planning to go to Staples or Bestbuy after work, too.

tried 2x1 gb sticks and it does the same thing.

One thing made it do something different. I switched out the old pata cable for a new one and then when it booted it asked me to insert something to boot from. Didn't do me any good, but at least it is different.
