I just installed my Gigabyte 6970 i had replaced, i have it crossed with a flashed Gigabyte 6950 2gb. Everything is ok with the detection of the cards, but i am i having a problem with the resolution. I have an Asus VH242H and i am the resolution it is saying i have is 1920x1080, however i have about 2.5cmx 2cm that is unused or missing on the screen and i am not getting full display. I am using a HDMI cable also.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

its the overscan/underscan being incorrect, its in the drivers. i'm not in front of my laptop right now to check the exact settings but go through the options or google how to change overscan in CCC.

This always happens to me with AMD drivers when I update them on my HTPC. Kind of annoying that it can't scale correctly.

its not that it "can't" its that AMD does it as a fail safe (at least from my view point of why it doesn't scale correctly), i'd rather have resolution default to being smaller then the screen then have it over sized and not be able to click on anything. but thats just my personal opinion.

True, but I never had the problem on an nVidia card with the same rig/display before.
