1) need : mobo.- Biostar TZ77B, pross- I5-2550K, Ram- PC3-1333 8gig x2 =16gig
HD- 7200rpm, SSD?,vid card, dvd burner no blueray, case, power supp. then new monitor.
only reuse mouse and key board.
Need w7home
Use: gaming, WOW, SC2,photoshop no O.C.
This is for my son, so if needed I could buy it at once, trying to keep it about $1200.00 total and can get my sister to go to micro center. I use the Egg mostly.
Purch: now or wait for deals over time

Your best bet now is to wait a few more weeks for Intel's new Ivy Bridge CPUs to come out. So please bump this thread up then.

Why a 2x8GB set? If you're planning on upgrading to 32GB of RAM later on, you're gonna need Windows 7 Pro 64bit as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit supports only up to 16GB of RAM. That's another $40.

GPU wise, Visiontek isn't exactly known for good customer support. Even Powercolor doesn't have that bad of a CS or rep compared Visiontek. Speaking of which, I recommend this Powercolor card instead which saves you $7:

I may as well ask it here since your post about Win7 Pro reminded me...

I am planning a new build as well but waiting for IB to actually go on sale. I was originally intending to buy an OEM Win7 Pro 64-bit, but now I'm considering Home Premium as I know I won't even got above 16GB on this machine (I will do a whole system upgrade before 16GB isn't enough anymore). My question is are there any major differences performance- or overclocking-wise between Pro and Home Premium? A web site listed the major software and support differences between the two and I won't be using the extras from Pro, so should I just stick with Home Premium and save the extra cash?

Nope. They perform and overclock virtually the same. If you're not going above 16GB of RAM, save your money and go with Home Premium.
 
If possible I would wait for i5-3570k to be released next week, especially since you already have a Z77 MB and are not using MIcrocenter. Also, as Danny has pointed out, you could easily save $$ on RAM and there are much more reliable brands than Visiontek +-$10 from the GPU you selected.
 
16 gig will be max, no problem with 4gig stix filling all spaces like the old days?

Thanks, went with the changes. Came out at $11xx.xx, my son said it flys! Any real increase when he drops in an Ivy cpu (years from now) and the vid. card turns on at pcei3 over pcei2? I know a faster cpu would be faster, but this board will turn on other items when an Ivy is put in.
