1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
I'm going to be using it for gaming, live streaming, and video editing.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
My budget is around 1000$
3) Where do you live?
United States.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
  • Power supply
  • Case
  • Motherboard
  • CPU
  • Cooling System
  • Memory
  • Primary hard drive
  • Primary optical drive
  • Video card
  • Operating System
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Nothing, I want this is be a clean build.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Yeah, probably.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
23" Viewsonic
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
When I can decide on what to buy!
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
Crossfire and SLI support would be nice.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Yeah, I have a legit copy of Windows 7 64bit.

I have some more questions:

Do you live near a physical Micro Center or Fry's store?
Which games are you going to play? What are you using for video editing?
Out of curiosity, what's the model number of your Viewsonic monitor? Resolution?
Which edition of Windows do you have? Which version (e.g., OEM, Academic, Upgrade)?

I don't live near any Micro Centers or Fry's stores.
The games I plan on playing are Starcraft 2, Battlefield, and Crysis.
I plan on using Sony Vegas Pro 10.
I have Windows 7 Home Edition.

What's the resolution you're using for gaming? What level of graphics quality?

That's what I was afraid of.

Is the monitor part of the $1000 budget? Do we need to also include keyboard, mouse, and speakers?

What about the OS? You included it in #4 but then say that you have it in #10. Which is it?

Thanks a ton!!!

I just have a question, how much better is the i7 2600k compared to the i5 2500k?

Just wondering.

but again thanks, this helped a lot.

For gaming and streaming, virtually no difference between the two. However when it comes to Video editing, depending on the video editing/rendering application, the difference between the two CPUs is as much as 20% but sometimes as little as 10%.

The i7-2600K is generally faster than the i5-2500K, but even multiple benchmarks on the same program -- in this case, Sony Vegas -- fail to yield consistent results. For example, Legit Reviews, Overclock.net (a forum post), and Tweakers.net (using Google Translate) offer different numbers on the performance boost the i7-2600K provides over the i5-2500K.

If you use Vegas Pro 10 about half the time you use your computer, then the i7-2600K may be worth the $100 price premium.
