This is my 2nd build. Last one lasted me 8 years. If not for virus still would be running right now.

I spent 6 months searching last time I did this. With ya'll help hoping would take me just a few weeks to decide on Board and possessor. I would like to spend up to 200 for board and possessor. So what do you think of this combo? Think its any good. Do you think it can last me for a while? Anyone having problems with board or processor?

1. AMD Phenom 9850 2.5GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad-Core Black Edition Processor Model HD985ZXAJ4BGH - OEM

ECS GF8200A (V1.0) AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard -

2. ECS GF8200A (V1.0) AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200 HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

Thanks for your time.

Wait - a virus trashed your box? How's that?

What about RAM, you need to budget that in too? Are you stuck on amd and do you need onboard video? What progs and OS are you using? Try and give more info plz.

i dont care much for ecs boards. im assuming thats a frys combo deal. if a virus got on the computer you have now and its a really bad one. just perform a low level format and install the os assuming you have the discs. i see lots of users on this site use gigabyte boards that might be an option. in my opinion you dont wanna just get any ole board. its the heart of your computer and need a good stable one from a good reputable brand. some here like ecs some dont including me lol. good luck with whatever you decide though.

It's really impossible to estimate whether any given hardware combination will last you any amount of time without knowing what your expectations of it will be (i.e., what you'll use it for).

If you're doing any amount of up-to-date gaming, not even the craziest cost-no-object gaming machine could last you eight years in a usable manner, the way the hardware requirements of games has been progressing.

If, on the other hand, you'll be using the machine only for e-mail, web browsing, word processing, accounting, etc., then you could probably build a system today that could see your grandkids through college. (Okay. Maybe there's a little exaggeration there.)

I have that exact mobo ECS GF8200a and a phenom x3 8600

If I had it to do over again, I would go w/ a different board. It does have some nice features, but I am having some kinks having to work out yet, not sure what the source is. Spend a few more bucks and get a little better board with like a AMD 790G, you won't regret it.

I should have put more info. The virus did not trash my computer. Just got me thinking. The the blue screen happen. 0x0000024a or was it 25a. I did some checking, most say try a reinstall or clean wipe.

I do website design and building the sites. I would have about 3 to 4 of the CS3 progarms running and a few other programs running at the same time.

I do not need to have a on board video. I just want to abe to view the lastes dvd|blu-ray

Thanks
