lt_shiro,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm curious as to why you chose that motherboard over the ASUS and were you suggesting 12G of memory?

Asus board

-layout is bad
-price

As for the memory, why not? if you are willing to spend $180 on 6 GB kit, 12 GB for $70 more isn't that bad of a deal.

I've been scouring the forums and the web trying to clarify your statement here about the layout on the ASUS board being bad. Would you be kind enough to clarify Shiro?

Thanks again!

if you install crossfire or SLi setup

you will only 1 PCI and x1 slot with Asus layout

evga x58 depend on which slot you use, there is 1 PCI and 2 x16 slots on the board not in use or blocked.

Why did you choose the P6T Deluxe? What features did it have that you wanted/needed?

Dominators are overpriced and offer no noticeable performance improvement over standard XMS3 or other DDR3-1600 sticks. You won't notice the difference between CL8 and CL9 in your usage.

Ditch the X-Fi, I doubt you need it. Onboard HD Audio is fine, especially for your speakers.

I chose the P6T Deluxe as a recommendation for stability, performance, pricepoint, and SLI/Xfire capability, and the second ethernet port.

I chose a dedicated sound card to hopefully offload some of the CPU since this rig will be for gaming.

What will you be using the second LAN port for? Is that second LAN port worth the extra $50 over the comparable P6T? The P6T is also known for its stability, SLI/CF capability and price.

Oh and sound processing is so minute in terms of CPU usage, you would honestly not notice a performance difference. We're talking less than 1% CPU usage here. So no need for a sound card unless you're an audiophile with a decent speaker setup.

I have no problems with going with the P6T non deluxe, I was questioning the feedback given about the Asus layout vs the EVGA. I haven't made my purchase yet which is why I am here. :)

After reading up on the EVGA board, I'm really leaning that direction since it sounds like the support structure there is well worth it.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the boards mentioned, as long as you don't mind the prices.

And as Danny mentioned, with onboard HD Audio, there's not much to offload in relation to how fast modern CPUs are these days. ;)

Get this Mushkin 3x2GB DDR3 1600 kit instead of the Corsair Dominators or G.Skill Ripjaws. You don't need "performance" RAM if you aren't going to overclock and you don't need 12GB of RAM to run the latest games.

You could save some more money by going with the OCZ Obsidian 3x2GB DDR3 1600 kit, but its voltage levels are too high for my liking.

Nearly any X58 motherboard would suit your needs with little trouble, so it makes no sense (to me) to spend additional money on "reliable stability" when you won't even use half of the board's available features. Many a computer user has been satisfied with their "basic" P6T (non-Deluxe) board.
