I am looking to upgrade for upcoming games. I dont refresh my computers way to often so Id like to build one that will last me. Here is what I am thinking.

CPU: i7-3820
Mobo: ASUS Rampage IV Gene
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133
GPU: EVGA GTX 680
SSD: Crucial M4 128gb


CPU: i7-2600k
Mobo: ASUS P8P67 DELUXE
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133
GPU: EVGA GTX 680

Will my old power supply handle both these systems? Am I going to see any noticeable performance out of the 3820 over the 2600k? Thanks for the help guys.
 
For a pure gaming rig, you wont notice a difference at all. In fact, you wont even notice a difference if you're running a 2500k instead of the i7.
 
So no chance on waiting for Ivy Bridge? That's due out late April/early May.

And Skillz is right: In terms of gaming performance, you won't notice a difference between the two. And yes you wouldn't notice a diffrence between the 2500K and 2600K either.

Also note that with Intel platforms, they do not benefit that much from higher speed RAM. In fact, you won't notice a difference between DDR3 1333 RAM and DDR3 2133 RAM.
 
If its that close I might as well wait for Ivy Bridge just to see. How about my PSU, is that thing still powerful enough for the new hardware?
 
I am not up to date on PSUs. Are Corsairs still recommended or is there something better?
 
Corsair, Seasonic, and Antec are usually the PSUs we recommend around here due to their competitive prices.
 
Ive decided to start collecting some parts. Will a Corsair HX650 be sufficient for either a SB or IB cpu and a 680?
