1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
My current PC's HDD capacity is completely maxed out so I need to build a new rig to cater for ~8-10 HDD's which will act to store my media which will be used to stream to my HTPC running XBMC over a gigabit network.
I plan to run Windows Home Server 2011 on it and stream 1080p across the network but have low running costs as I will still have a desktop PC and macbook hitting into my electricity bill. I'm not looking for too complicated a setup and think this approach will suit my needs although I'm not sure if I have to access WHS remotely or can use my existing monitors in conjunction with my desktop AND macbook which also uses the dual screens. I was originally planning to replace my desktop with this new setup but reading around and seeing a posters reply it seems a more sensible approach to split the desktop/file server duties across multiple setups.
I've tried reading a number of threads about what to get including Danny Bui's post here http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1674047&highlight=build but couldn't seem to locate all the parts for the UK and someone may be able to supply something more accurate for my requirments which I've posted above
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
Approx. £300-£500 including tax and shipping (say $500- $800). If it goes slightly over so as to have a better rig then go for it but no more than than £100 ($150) over. Don't worry about including HDD's or O/S in this as I can cater for those seperately.
3) Where do you live?
UK but if you can only use American sites to show parts no problem. I plan to use any UK site for purchasing if they can supply the hardware.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
All hardware (i.e. case/PSU/motherboard/CPU etc) except HDD's / O/S, monitor/keyboard/mouse.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
All HDD's will be transferred across to new rig.
6) Will you be overclocking?
No
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
2 x 22inch widescreen
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
As soon as possible as my HDD's can't handle anymore space!
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
A modern board with features such as USB 3.0 would be preferable.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
I have a 32bit Vista or 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium .. Windows 7 will be used in this new setup.
Thanks in advance if you can help in any way
