I'm planning on building my wife a new rig as her x2 6000 is pretty long in the tooth. She does some light gaming, (loves portal 1/2 and plays alot of farmville/zooville or whatever). I'm going to fill out the required questionaire then ask some questions, because I have a few pieces in mind.
1) What will you be doing with this PC?
Light gaming and possible backup for when my PC is down
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
No real hard budget so lets say 600 for now.
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
Live in Sioux Falls, SD currently.
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget?
CPU, cooler, case, memory, motherboard, power supply
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing?
Monitor, keyboard, mouse. Probably won't put in optical drive, or reuse existing worst case. 750 GB Momentus XT hybrid drive. Current power supply is Antec HE550.
6) Will you be overclocking?
Not initially for her.
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
She has a 22" 1680x1050 currently. Will probably get her a 23" IPS if some come on sale over BF or xmas.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
No real time line yet, but would like to get stuff ordered within say two weeks or so.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard?
I really want to try out the newer AMD CPU for her, the ones with the embedded video on the CPU, A10 I think. Nothing really required though.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? Currently have 7 home premium 64 bit. I want to install 8 on her new system though.
OK, so here's a few things. First she really likes the look of the Silverstone PS07 mini case. This will be my first mini/small system build, and my first AMD system in a few years. I haven't really kept up with the AMD motherboard chipsets lately so here is what I was thinking. The Asus FM2A85 pro motherboard and the latest A8-5600k CPU. Will they even fit into the PS07?
I think stability first then quietness second.
