First of all, gotta get some things off my chest. I'm pretty sad. I have 42 Blue Ribbons, and 9,300+ posts at EVGA, and been a great member, but yet they treat me like crap. So I'm coming here. Hope everyone allows me to stay here now.

Also sorry if I posted in wrong section. I tried to find the appropriate one, but still not for sure.




Oh man, I'm so pumped. I had to make this thread now, in advance.

I will use this thread as a build-log with pics, etc. Once everything starts to arrive.

Anyways, yesterday I bought a brand new Asus P9X79 board on [H] Forums for $175, with 8GB of Samsung 1600Mhz memory! THEN I found an i7-3820 on EVGA Forums for $200! Owner has benches of it at 5.2GHz!

Below is what my rig should consist of, but might change alittle, if I find other parts for a better deal, etc.

Mobo: Asus P9X79 (In Shipment) SSD: Corsair Force GT 120GB (Or any quality 120GB SSD for $80 or less)
CPU: i7-3820 (In Shipment) PSU: Corsair GS600 (Have it in my closest)
GPU: Something Cheap, 'Till GTX 660 Releases Sound: 2x KRK Rokit 8 Studio Monitors (They're in my closet)
Memory: Samsung IC 4x2GB (Came with mobo)

What does everyone think of my set-up? Sadly I had to sell my other rig, due to no job and finances, but luckily now I'm back on my feet.

Anyways, if anyone has a cheap GPU (GTX 460+), PM me. Also looking for used Trident X 2400MHz+ memory, and a case under $100. If I don't find a case, I will just do an open-rig build like last time, till I get a Torture Rack.
 
We don't recommend used parts builds around here... with that being said, please answer the sticky questions in this forum.
 
I'd highly recommend getting a better PSU. Seems like folly to pair such a relatively low-end PSU with such high-end parts. Something like the Corsair TX650 V2 is a good choice.

I don't recommend buying a used house, a used car, Hell our Earth was used, so kill us all now!

This must be sarcasm.

On a more serious note, the reason why we do not generally recommend buying used computer parts is that if something goes wrong with the build, you will most likely be completely screwed (SOL) - in this case, you will have to pay the full retail or street price for the faulty part just to even replace it with a brand-new part. That is, you will have absolutely no warranty at all whatsoever with used parts unless a manufacturer offers a transferable warranty. (This is because most companies' warranties are valid only for the original owner or original purchaser of the part.)
 
I know that, and thank you for the info.

I honestly don't mind the risk though. I'm ALWAYS switching parts, etc. So I only keep my stuff for 2 months tops. But yeah I understand something COULD die while I have it. But I take that risk. But of course I also buy from only people who I trust, and know they took care of it.

Even at that, this approach would have cost me much more money than if I bought an entirely new PC build off the bat. This is because used PC parts depreciate in value extremely rapidly - and often will continue to lose value in those two months. In fact, after two months some of those parts could have dropped in value by more than two-thirds. As a result, I had trouble selling a two-month-old 750W PSU for even half of its original street price (it ended up selling privately for only 15 percent of its original price - a price point that would have been more than offset by high shipping costs).
 
Well if you have trouble selling anything else at half-off, PM me, because I'd love a 2600k for $150!

I don't think you'll find one that low for a while, but I did just buy a used one a couple of weeks ago for $205. Keep looking.
