I am currently looking into building a computer for an additional gaming station for the household.

I have narrowed down the components to the list bellow, however I was wondering what feedback [H]ard|Forum users have regarding my selections and/or suggestions for any other I may be overlooking.

Please don't mind attention to the USB card reader and USB flash drive as they are FREE with specific components.

I have listed the three motherboards that I'm undecided upon. Should I look at any others?

:Important info:

The 95% usage of this system will be for games and media while 5% for browsing web and work projects (small stuff).
The rest of the components I already have for this build include:

Video card: MSI ATI HD5870 DX11
Storage: WD Raptor 10K 150GB & WD SATA 3.0GB 500GB (I don't want to make the change into SSD storage as of yet)
Sound card: Creative SB X-Fi Titanium
Monitor: Dell 2408WFP
Logitech peripherals

Thanks and here's a round of free e-beers on me!

It would help if you answer the following questions:
6) Will you be overclocking?
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.

6) I might (I'm a n00b at it though) but only on air
7) Crossfire yes, RAID no, Firewire yes, GOOD memory compatibility, SATA ports yes

-Thanks!

For gaming, you could save some money by going with a P55 or Phenom II-based system:

$345 - Intel Core i5 750 & Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P combo deal
$86 - G.Skill Ripjaws Series 2x2GB DDR3 1600 dual channel kit

OR

$189 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
$130 - Asus M4A78T-E
$86 - G.Skill Ripjaws Series 2x2GB DDR3 1600 dual channel kit

Are you sure that you'll need CrossFire or SLI right away? You could save even more money by going with a good 600-750 watt power supply that's on sale, like the Antec TruePower New TP-750 Blue.

If you decide to go with the i7 920 / 1366 build, I would choose between the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 or the EVGA 3X SLI. Both are good motherboards. Otherwise the build looks fine.

@tiraides: AMD is a NO go for me.

@PC_User: Yeah, I'm pretty set on s1366 / i7 920. I looked into a few reviews of the EVGA and found some concerns regarding built quality vs. the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2. On the other hand I read the tech support for EVGA is superior to ASUS's.

So pretty much unless you're a hardcore overclocker picking the ASUS Rampage II over the ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 is an overkill?

-Thanks!

Pretty much.

If you don't need all of the features provided on the P6T Deluxe V2, there's also the "normal" P6T to consider. Gigabyte and DFI also make good motherboards with OC features.

i7 LGA1366 seems a bit overkill for just gaming, even on just a 1920x1200 monitor. IMO, SLI/CF isn't really worth it at that res, since newer cards keep coming out and offering better performance per card and the simple fact that GPUs are the fastest depreciating component of a gaming system. Therefore, since SLI/CF isn't needed, i7 LGA1366 isn't needed. But hey, if you want it, we can't stop you, so go for it. ;)

You can typically find good 750W PSUs for around $100, which itself is complete overkill for a single vidcard/hdd config anyhow. Even if you go CF, a good quality 750W should be enough. Though, if you just want to buy the most expensive stuff as possible because you might need it, then go for it. Personally, I've found its better to buy what you need, and simply sell and upgrade if you find yourself needing more int he future.
