I got everything from newegg I needed to finish my first build today, so I start installing things, following the instructions on all the hardware from the manufacture.

I get everything connected and its time to boot up... I plug the power supply in, hit the clear CMOS button as per instructions, and hit the power button on the mobo, I hear a 1 beep and then it starts this ear piercing loud beep and gives me a 7F error on the LED screen...

Mobo - EVGA Classified
CPU - Intel i7 920
GPU - VisionTek 5870
Intel SSD
HX620 PSU
OCZ 6gb ram
Asus DVD drive

I've taken it completely apart, reseated the CPU, GPU, tried with 1-3 sticks on the ram, reset all the ram, unplugged all the fans and still no luck... The beep isn't coming from the mobo speaker (I covered it with my finger and the sound didn't change) I don't think. The beep starts after alittle after I hit the switch so I dont think its the PSU.

Any thoughts?

is the HD 5870 connected to power?
what does your user manual says 7F means?
did you use stand-offs?

Sounds like the motherboard POSTed correctly but you haven't plugged the power into the graphics card like the poster above noted.

That loud squeal is coming from the graphics card.

hmm, ok. Well the card has 2 6pin connectors and came with 1 6 pin adapter, thats what Im using right now...

My PSU came with 2 PCIE power cords, do I need to use both of them instead of the adapter that it came with?

Jake

:p I did that the first time I built a PC, forgot to plug in the GPU. Scared the bejeezus out of me. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

WIFE (from the other room): WTF IS THAT?!
ME: I HAVE NO IDEA!!1

Ah sweet, that worked!

Cant thanks yall enough :) pics soon to come

yes, both need to be connected, the manual should've explained this

Yes you should use the 2 pcie coming from the psu.

Well, I got everything together and got the OS and WoW installed, but it runs the game like shit, lol... like 35fps with everything on low and its really laggy. Installed the chipset drivers, and updated the video drivers, and attempted to update the CPU Driver and it was up to date according to windows

Any Idea's here?
Jake

thanks for the link, I tried all that and it didn't do anything, so I called Blizz and they didn't know what was wrong on phone support. But I emailed them some files they want to look at and maybe they can get it working...

Kinda funny I ran 3DMARK06 on it at its scored a 13,860 and it cant run World of Warcraft on the lowest settings, lol, something is up. I'll be sure to post if I find the problem!

a longshot, but does your ISP suck?

also a long shot, do you have some stupid IQ setting forced on in the graphics drivers? (like 32x AA?)

Nah my ISP (mediacom) is usually great, around 200ms of latency usually and hardly ever DC... and I've tried the settings with 1x to 8x with no change in performance, that goes with every setting in the game... everything on low its about 16 fps with a weird lag (feels like its really sluggish) to 2fps with everything maxed out.

Jake

Did you try reinstalling the game?

Also reinstall the video card drivers.

alright, figured it probably wasn't either of those, but at least worth asking (I've spent my share of time wondering why a game isn't running as it should, only to find some "advanced 24x AA" or something enabled in drivers)

the score for that setup is low, I get 12900 with mine all at stock.

many factors can influence a 3Dmark score, and even on identical systems there is a stated 3% variance

3Dmark is also about as valuable for judging performance as throwing a rock at your computer and seeing how far it bounces ;)

Should be getting around 20,000 3dmark06 (default settings).

And no matter what anyone says, two similar or identical computers should get the same benchmarks like 3Dmarks if configured correctly. THAT is the whole point of running them (to make sure everything is OK).

so even though Futuremark themselves have said theres a 3% variance between 3DMark scores on two identical systems or multiple runs on the same system, and therefore suggests multiple passes for published benchmarks, it doesn't matter?

ok.

Hmm, so my 3d mark score is low, could that be a problem with the CPU or GPU then? but still it should run it more than 3fps right?

Really starting to piss me off, got a 1700 piece of shit sitting on my desk that I cant do anything with, lol

My laptop scored like 5k on 3dmark and it played everything on high with vsync and was always around 30fps

if it was an issue with hardware, you wouldn't be this far
look for software conflicts or other issues (perhaps BIOS/resource issues?)

Hmm. Maybe try entering your BIOS and restoring the "optimized defaults", assuming you already haven't.

Fixed it!!!!!!!

I went into the bios and reset the defaults, which I thought I had already done, but apparently not, lol. its now running 60+fps with everything maxed out in dalaran :)

Thanks for all the help guys, this forum is priceless to me :)
