A friend of mine want to build a new rig.

What's your total budget? $1500
What size monitor do you have? 22" is coming
What are you planning to with this new rig? Gaming
If gaming, what games? WarHammer Online, MTW2, EU3.. so forth

He won't be overclocking so hes looking for the best bang for his buck at stock speeds. Also no SLI and, he needs Vista.

This is what he has in mind so far.

AMD 6400+
GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5
EVGA 8800GT
A-Data 4GB kit
Raidmax 600W PSU
Hitachi 500GB HD
Samsung DVD Burner
NZXT Case
Acer 22" monitor
Vista

Thanks in advance.

Any reason why he/you chose that $200 motherboard? It doesn't offer a significant enough performance increase over a $100 motherboard. And it isn't exactly a best bang for your buck item.

Oh and drop the PSU. I would not trust it. Here are some other
URL=http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10006428]Corsair 450VX 450W PSU[/URL] - $76
Corsair 550VX 550W PSU - $89
Corsair 520HX 520W PSU - $106
Corsair 650TX 650W PSU - $130
Corsair 620HX 620W PSU - $139

Also, for a little less than that AMD CPU and Gigabyte mobo comboe ($362), you can get a much faster quad-core rig:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping CPU - $254
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35 Motherboard - $90
----
Total: $344 Plus tax and shipping

I agree with Danny... definitely drop the Raidmax PSU and switch to Intel.

i would consider going with another harddrive brand as well. seagate barracuda, western digital, or samsung comes in mind.

The Hitachi is fine. Its as fast as the competition. Though, my Hitachi's tend to run hotter than my other brands.
