Ignore prne10's build. I've already gone over the major issues with that setup in his original thread here:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1533899

Alos, how often do you use photoshop? What's your typical Photoshop workload?
Hi

once a week, to edit some pics (.raw format, DSLr) ;)

$160 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU
$150 - Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 AMD 870 ATX Motherboard + G.skill F3-10600CL9D-4GBNT 2 x 2GB DDR3 1333 RAM
$200 - eVGA 768-P3-1360-TR GeForce GTX 460 768MB PCI-E Video Card
$45 - Western Digital WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$56 - Antec NEO ECO 520C 520W PSU
$70 - Cooler Master CM690 II ATX Case
---
Total: $681 plus tax and shipping

Significantly faster than prne10's build in the CPU, GPU, and HDD area. Went with Amazon.com as much as possible since they don't charge taxx for CA residents. Do note that the video card should be in stock by the time you buy. However that motherboard + RAM deal will disappear by the end of July.

WOW thanks danny ;)

Will this PSU run the GTX 460?

BTW: This will be my first custom built pc, are there any good guides out there ? I know some basic stuff.. (install pci cards, ram...)

That PSU will be enough for the GTX 460. As for guides, look in the General Hardware FAQ. There's a ton of links for guides on how to build a PC.

If you are a student you can get amazon prime for free and get free 2 day shipping on all that. Also I would suggest a ssd if you can afford it, it is just about the greatest thing in the world.

Since you moved to San Jose, you should live by a plethora of Fry's and there is a Microcenter in Santa Clara (real close) Those stores, Fry's especially have great deals on motherboard+cpu combo. For everything else, just buy from tigerdirect because of the 15.2% BCB

AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU
eVGA 768-P3-1360-TR GeForce GTX 460 768MB PCI-E Video Card
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5''
_______________
@tigerdirect: $429.97 :) :)

I'll check out frys

Thanks everyone :)

Fry's deals are posted on Fridays. ;) The good deals sell out quick, so don't snooze. Just google for "Fry's ad" and click on the san jose mercury link. CPU + Mobo combos are what you should be looking for, typically priced where the mobo is either free or less than half off newegg prices.

Yeah, it's best to get there early during the day on Friday.

(Ask your boss for an early lunch break around 10am Fri, I've done it before heh)

Friday, after work hours, is rough. It's a madhouse.

And deal's are usually sold out by then anyways....

hi guys

I think the 460 GTX is way to overkill for my needs. how about the 5770 ?

Is 4GB RAM enough for a 64bit system ? Win 7.

The HD 5770 should be good enough for 20" monitor. But you did have room for the GTX 460 hence why I recommended it in the first place. Theres really not much else where you could put that extra $35 and get a decent performance increase.

4GB of RAM is more than enough.
