Finally!!!!

Just minutes ago I got an email from my wife.... and it's finally happened! After much discussion, letter writing, begging and pleading I now have permission to borg all the machines in the veterinary clinic she manages!!

I don't have a complete list of specs just yet, it's a newly acquired clinic in their group, but I do know there are at least 20 P4 2.8~3.0g machines running 24/7....

And here's the kicker.... there are several other large (and one rather famous) vet clinics in their group and in the area.... and once we have a months worth of results, we plan on approaching the other clinics.... I'm really hoping this could turn into something BIG!!!!

I won't have a chance to get this set up until tomorrow afternoon, maybe Thursday, but once I do I'll post up a list of specs and dot them off in Jon's thread:)

pics or shens! ;)

wait... I'm in the wrong thread... and I'm not in gen may!

great news......but

do you think they will pull the plug once they see a change in the electricity bill? i am sure your brought that to their attention and i am just curious as to what they said.

I don't think that's going to be an issue, and it has been discussed. All of these machines run 24/7 as it is, although I realize there will be an increase in consumption.....Everyone involved in the decision making process seemed very enthusiastic about the program, and honestly, I'm not really all that surprised about that... they are doctors, and they all seemed quite excited about the science.

Hopefully everything goes smoothly and I'll be able to use this as an example for some of the other clinics in town....

It is amazing that after all these year F@H has been around, so many people in related fields still don't know about it.

I hope it works out for the good of the team and the science.

now you gotta convince them that Quad cores are neccesary for even basic word processing and internet browsing these days. looks like all those systems need an upgrade!

Yep... I'm on it;)

Seriously... one of my biggest hopes is that this is a positive experience for everyone involved and that the word about the good that F@H does spreads around to the other doctors... there are at least two relatively state of the art facilities in town that I'm hoping to borg soon as well... and they have much newer systems:)

I actually believe this could happen whereas with Jon855 we knew it was BS and a tease. :D

Hey there buddy, I heard my name being spitted on... -_- I think I'm gonna give that lab manager a visit tomorrow... Of course, I'll just have to get the other 12 C2D rigs borged somehow and I think I'll revisit the other lab manager to replace the single clients with smp clients and request that they are not to be turned off... There's only so much I can do with one rig of my own and the borgs I don't have direct control over...

Fear not, I'll make it happen somehow.

Excel, Word, Outlook, and Internet Explorer...4 applications, 4 cores. It just makes good sense.

Took a little longer than I thought, but as of about an hour ago, I've got most of them up and folding!!!

I added a list in Jon's countdown thread, but here are the specs so far....

Five Celeron 2.4g machines with 512m ram, eight Celeron 2.8g 512m boxes.... and I about fainted when I found a E6750 2.66 2g machine sitting behind the kennel desk..... so I went ahead and loaded two standard clients on that one. The clinic is too far away for me to try and maintain anything other than that....

I really owe a huge thanks to my wife for getting permission for me to do this, and she will have to be responsible for monitoring them for me... I can't be there everyday....

Anyhow, not giant or anything, but it should help... I'm pretty happy about this:)

Congrats on the borg! Mine's still under review.

Have fun crushing 90% of our members :)

Damn nice borg there. It doesn't matter if the machines are top of the line or not. They all do their part as you well know. Besides, when you talk about that many machines it adds up very quickly.

Also, keep with the regular console clients even on dual and quad cores. The SMP clients are still beta which means they will expire and they have bugs. We would all much rather have the machines putting out less PPD but stay running indefinitely than have them run the SMP for a little while, have something go bad and then have to take F@H off completely. Slow and steady wins the race.
