New Asus 770 Direct CU2 problems

Hi Guys, long time lurker first time poster so please be patient :)

New build as follows

i7 4770K
Asus Z87-Plus
Corsair Vengeance 16gb (2x8gb)
Corsair HX1050 PSU
Asus Direct CU2 GTX 770.

New build went together smoothly, green power LEDs on the 770 are both on, however when the machine starts I just get a black screen with the error "please power down and connect the pcie power cable for this graphics card"

Both the 8 pin and 6 pin are connected but I can't get beyond this message with the 770. Machine boots fine with the onboard video. I also tested with my old HD5870, and tested the 770 with a 2nd Corsair HX850w PSU but same results.

I'm assuming the card is just DOA but I want to make sure I'm not overlooking something idiotic

Thanks!

Just a random idea, you have the card in the upper most PCIE x16 slot, right?

Can you try different PCIe power connectors to the graphics card? Might just be a bad connection somewhere on the PSU.

I tried a combo, I used the 2 standard 8/6 pin PCIe connectors on the PSU, I also tried the modular cables, and tried using the asus dual 6 pin to 8 pin converter plus an additional cable for the 6 pin but no luck.

Might just be a bad card with a loose power connector. RMA it or try it in a different system. I know I had issues and it ended up just being a random incompatible PSU. Card worked fine with a different one.

Thanks, I will RMA the card and report back. Anyone else running a corsair HX PSU with one of these cards, or any 770?

Are you using windows 8 with your setup? If so, you will have to disable the intel HD display driver in Device manager , shut down system, install 770, connect displays to 770, then boot system, then install latest NVIDIA driver, Had the Same problem installing my ASUS Radeon7950 Direct CU on a Intel 3770K system I built a few months back, Microsoft had to help me solve problem,, F~ing Microsoft!(Can't use my Lucid chip with Win 8 either), , Mine Turned out to be a Microsoft Windows 8 Driver problem, Hope Win 8.1 fixes it, Hope it fixes your problem, Keep me posted, THX =)

Not using Windows 8, the error message comes up as soon as the machine has power, not during startup or in windows.

Oh ok perhaps bad card have you checked to see if card is seated properly in slot and in bios under system agent select pci-e as primary display, save and exit, also you might check to see what the minimum power supply requirements are for your 770, which is probably similar to 680 since was its predecessor BTW What OS are you running with this?

Yep card is seated properly, everything is double checked and snug. I'm 99% sure the card is bad, requirements are 600w and I tested with both 850 and 1050w PSU. No OS at all yet since this is a new build but it will run Windows7 X64.

Swapped the card this morning for an EVGA GTX 770 SC and all is right in the world. New card booted up without any problems. So confirmed the Asus was a dud.
