are there any actual reviews out on this yet? I wonder if it chokes on World in Conflict like the gts 320mb did.

looks like a great card if you can get it for the same or less than the 3870, it beats it pretty handily.

I wonder if this card would actually beat the 512mb HD 3870?

I'd like to see a comparison with the 256mb 8800GT and the 512MB HD 3870, and maybe throw in the 256/512mb HD3850's.

If I'm running a 24", would I be better off with a different card in this price-range?
$210's already stretching the budget, so I'm not going for the 512mb version..

I don't game often, but I would like to have xfx/evga's support, and would like it to last a while too..

Honestly.. I don't care to keep up with the newest games(I seriously buy like maybe one game a year.. maybe less), so I just want to be able to run cs-s smoothly... be able to run oblivion at playable fps.. something that'll be able to dual-client WoW without it lagging...

My friend's 8600mobile was able to run oblivion on his 15.4" at "good enough" settings for me.. 8800gt 256mb w/ better system configs should be able to run this on 24" better than my friend did on his 15.4 with his 8600, right?

compare to 8800gt 512mb ?
only fps at higher resolution is different right ?

Yep, I would buy this if I hadn't picked up the 512MB EVGA Crysis bundle two weeks ago.

I currently game at 1280x960 on a CRT and this 256MB card would be more than enough. Plus it has the new design cooler so you may get pretty good overclocks with less noise.

BTW, these no longer show up when you search the site so it looks like a pre-release. Direct links still work for now.

Yeah Im gonna pass til I see a review at higher resolutions as well.

What always annoys me about reviews is that they never seem to include average fps under full load. I play counter-strike source with a 7900 GT OC on a 19" lcd at 1400X900 16:10. Yes yes on a 5 on 5 scrim my fps is 150-200 fps. but I like the big servers 28 man +. when you have like 10 people rush you with flashbangs your actual fps dips drastically from what they report on the benchmarks. Especially at higher resolutions. At this point I'm not interested in anything under 512MB.

Ordered the XFX Pre-OCed card w/ Lost Planet (which I've already beaten!!). Looks like I'll be returning the 512mb card to fry's.

The rig it will power is a pure 939 opty 165 - 1280x1024 rig, you guys think I made the better move by going cheaper?

The reviews I've seen have this doing pretty well @ 1680x1050, not as well as the 512MB.

Oh well.

I game at 1280x1024, still had some slowdown's in certain games with the 320mb GTS. I'm not making the same mistake twice.

Hey they've added a $10MIR on the $229.99+$6.33 card clocked at 650/1600 making it $226.32AR.

This is especially ironic, as people were making impulse buys at $300+ when the card came out a few weeks ago and now people are debating whether or not to buy it at $210.

256MB vs 512MB Dethred.

Oh, nooooooow someone releases an 8800GT with a black PCB. Color-coordinating is such a pain...

God knows it....

I bit on a 512 gt earlier this week. I wasn't expecting the 256mb version til after the holidays

I think the 3870 is a better buy,its only like 10 bucks more(msrp ofcourse),and has 512 mb, but this is an excellent midrange card.

I agree. I don't see any legit reviews for the 256mb online, but I'm guessing the 3870 would be a significant upgrade for a small amount of money.

So I have the option of waiting 5+ days to see if my 512MB XFX ships from Dell, or ordering the 256MB version now & saving ~30$.
I'll probably end up waiting seeing as I can resell CoH for ~30$, and I'm guessing the extra video ram will do me well enough for 1600x1200 usual gaming res.

I guess it should be sufficient for the games that I play such as CS source and Dark crusade
