Previously I was using 2 17" monitors and was looking to finally upgrade as I had 2XSamsung 204B's at work. It just got to me coming home and having about half the screen it seemed like.

So after reading and re-reading numerous reviews in this forum I picked out a Samsung 226CW. It is beautiful, I know many of you will point to the fact it is a TN panel but never having had an IPS or VA panel and not wanting to go over $400 it is the monitor for me.

I still have my Viewsonice VP171s to the left of it and I can tell you the color difference is massive. I have not calibrated either monitor but the Samsung looks amazing out of the box. If you would like I will take some photos if you folks would like to see it. I'm driving it with a eVGA 8800 GTS 640mb.

Again, thanks to all who contribute to this forum it is very helpful.

i would love to see some pictures, im still waiting for this monitor to arrive in the stores here in Germany.

I hope that the panel does not look like the one on BW! (it reflects too much light in my opinion)

I may regret this, but Best Buy (US) is now offering them off of their website and they are in some stores. Hasn't gotten to my local store yet.

I see Best buy is also offering the 216bw which Newegg has had for sometime. Can't figure why the 216bw has a slightly better horizontal viewing angle than the 226bw/226cw. I need to go check out the 226cw, but Dell is also currently offering the 2007wfp for $319. Either one would be a step up from what I have now.

I got it at Best Buy. I went to my local one and asked if they had that model and they checked and said they didn't but the one 20 min down the road had 7 in stock. I went in there and the guy said "Nope, haven't seen one" then I pointed to the stack on the shelf behind him and said "Samsung 226CW".

He was suprised to see them lol.

Can anyone tell me if the 226CW supports 1 to 1 pixel mapping?

As this was one of my main gripes with the 226bw and the reason I returned it I'm interested to see if samsung have included that feature.

the only difference between the 226BW and the 226CW is that the CW has improve backlighting to increase the colour range.

$80 more for the CW? ouch! Is it worth it? Is there anywhere at all that you can still buy 226BW that is guaranteed to have an S-panel?

I'm deciding if I want to go pick this up for my new build today. I'm not sure what to get for a 22" lcd and for my newly built gaming rig. I really can't afford the dell 24" and I don't know if I want to slip into the 20"..

This is the monitor I'm planning to pick up as soon as I can find one.

My main concern however is backlight bleeding. Can you please tell me if you notice it on the CW model and how much did the monitor set you back?

Also can you link to it on bestbuy's website? I am only finding the BW model.
The nearest best buy to me is around 60 miles away so if I go I'd like to make sure they have one/have it held via the online store for me.

I posted this else where but, I picked one up the other day, and the main difference is the advertised 97% color gamut. as for the monitor itself I returned it since the verticle viewing angle distorted the top quarter of the screen extensively, if you have the monitor sitting low IE top edge below your eye level so your looking down at the monitor it will resolve the viewing angle problem but introduce a host of ergonimic issues. this is just my oppinion and is very subjective, but I hope it helps anyone reading this.

I don't want to sound like I am trolling, but I think consumers need to start thinking about where their money is going.

Unless you like supporting the North Korean government (which the South Korean company SAMSUNG is now heavily invested in), don't buy Samsung. Every time you buy a Samsung, some of that money ends up in kim jong il's hands, which he will only use to make more weapons for killing Americans.

Stick with Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba, Viewsonic, or Westinghouse. Stay away from LG too, same deal with the samsung situation above.

I think people should just be aware of this. For how anti-north korean the USA is, I am suprised to find that almost all products used by best buy (their geek squad, etc), verizon, etc, etc are samsung products.

I have to admit that samsung does make a great product, so if you don't care about what I said, then you can go ahead and ignore my post.

A Samsung A/C on the northern side of the DMZ:

Sometimes the search on Bestbuy is screwed. Not to mention on the product page they say "From our expanded online assortment; not available in all Best Buy stores". What the heck is that?

Lol what a retarded argument. Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba, Viewsonic, or Westinghouse are all Made in China. Guess what? China provides a ton of fuel and food aid to North Korea to keep the country stable and prevent a flood of refugees. Therefore I think we should not buy any LCD monitors... (btw the UN provides aid too, US pays the UN)

Not to mention the $$ we pay for gas goes to the middle east. Some of the money undoubtedly gets siphoned of to terrorist organizations. Therefore we should all just walk...

I thought my post got the point across, but ^^ exactly.

Too many people are uninformed, especially those who are political, they believe whatever crap people tell them and don't do the leg work themselves, simply because it is convenient.

Grats to you lixuelai for being informed :)

interesting debate ....., just tell me how is it possible for me to buy Americans product where the American army by itself have killed thousands of civilians in Iraq, the number of civilians killed until now is 500 thousands by U.S army bombs and missiles and it is occupying the land too, so comparing this situation with what north Korea did to the Americans would be a joke, I think you better tell your government to stop occupying others land and stop killing innocent civilians before telling us what to buy or not .

LOL worst thread I've ever seen.

DONT BUY SAMSUNG BECAUSE THEY SELL AIR CONDITIONERS TO KIM JON IL

Hm lets see, Israel is terrorist nation that kills tons of innocent palestinians every day, steals their land, and runs bulldozers over their houses then calls them terrorists if they try to take back their house. http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=8481947913401709466

The cadaverous Michael Chertoff and just about every other bush goon is an israeli and/or mossad agent. The traitorous Scooter Libby that was recently pardoned by Bush also a mossad agent ( http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_wayne_ma_070705_libby_a_long_time_mo.htm ).

The corrupt Federal reserve and banking system that literally steals from americans also wholly owned and operated by Israelis http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1656880303867390173&q=freedom+to+fascism&hl=en

And who is Americas #1 ally even though they do nothing but screw over america? Israel

So I guess to add to that list don't buy any products from Israel or America either.

Looks like there is still some serious bitterness towards Samsung about the whole S/C/A panel debacle with the 226BW ;)

Can we please get back on topic?

@degfrag: I was in the same position and in the end could not afford the added expense of a 24" monitor. Mind you, if I had the money at the time, I would have gone for a 24" without any hesitation. Having said that, its worth noting that I am very happy with my 226 BW, and suppose the CW will improve on it, hopefully without the panel problems.

My advice would be that if you can wait and save up for a 24 inch, definitely do that. If you absolutely must have a monitor now, or if you are not going to be able to stretch your budget, then the CW/BW are pretty much the best-in-class (AFAIK) in the 22" range so far.

Thank you random. I was also assuming that if I went with a 24" I would have to also upgrade my 8800GTS 640mb to a GTX or Ultra to make up for the resolution difference?

I all honesty I didn't want to spend more than $300 on an LCD, but I went out and paid $415 or so after tax and everything for a 226CW. So I guess I went over.

    Hey defrag,

Yeah, it is true that you would probably need a more powerful card to get the most of the 24" screen. Mind you, the 640 MB 8800 GTS will probably keep you going for a good while depending on the games you want to play. I have heard that it handles 1900 x 1200 admirably.

Of course the problem is with the new wave of games like Crysis, UT3 etc which may run decently on old hardware but would need high end cards to look their prettiest.

Let us know how you found the CW, and congratulations on your new purchase  Enjoy!

I'm sorry I tried taking some pic's last night but they just came out bad. I'll try again tonight. I think the problem is my camera hits the object with IR to assist with focus and it is messing up the photos. I'll try some electrical tape tonight.

As to backlight bleed it is almost non-existant, it is a very uniform screen, which after trying the 22" gateway that had an upper and lower halo is a welcome change.

To me the colors seem to pop vs the Viewsonic VP171S I was using.

I'll be sure to contribute to this thread once I get it up and running. In all honesty my expectation isn't high only because I've been using a 15" laptop for 2 years now. I had given up my gaming rig awhile back in which I was using a CRT. After enough research though, I went with the CW.

I'm sure it won't disappoint me.

Did you have any problems with dead pixels or anything you notice like text being blurry, etc?

Have you had a chance to watch any movies or such on it or do much gaming?

Sorry I ask so many questions, It's just that my CRT i'm on is literally on it's last leg and I went to best buy today but no luck there so I'm like this close to just ordering it online.

You can return it to your local store if you order it online from Best Buy online. I might have to do the same because the product page says it may not be in all stores. Though I'm waiting to see if it goes on sale on Sunday by any miracle.

Back on topic - glad to see the popularity of the 226 has caused a revision and improvement in image quality nonetheless.
