Network pics thread

I just paid the 51 bucks 40+11 shipping. Not worried about it since i had 41 bucks in my paypal account from a month or two back i forgot about lol.

I have DB-9 to RJ-45 adapters and such at home and work if I need to set it up there. Shouldn't be too bad but I will keep it in mind, thanks.

I didn't have any DB9 ends so I just cut the RJ45 end off of a Cisco console cable and recrimped an end on with the appropriate pin-out.

What do you think of those net-irons?

PS.. Your cabling needs work :)

Smartass. :p

Been using Foundry (now Brocade) gear personally for almost 10 years now, love em. We still have FastIron 800's in production that have been running 24/7 for 8 years, and as of yet have had 0 hardware failures.

They're fast, well built and last forever (at least so far...).

We just installed four Brocade ICX 6000 series switches in our DR site. Nice little machines, not a hiccup since they started, and handy that the OS is nearly identical to the Cisco IOS

New toys, Palo Alto PA-5020 and a Blue Coat PS12000.

We have two of each of these for both locations. There's two models higher than this PA. This one still does 5Gbps. Plenty for us.

I installed these 2 units last week :) both routers but one has a HSPA card in it.

I've posted pics of our main data room racks, but here it is again
Catalyst 4507R+E is our core. PowerConnect 6248's are the access layers. Also have two ASA5520's, a 3945e Gen 2 for our head end vpn router, and a Cisco 2921 as our main internet router.

Hey ToX, I signed up just to ask you some questions -- I tried to send a PM but not sure if it went through. Do you have a preferred method of contact?

I guarantee it is not spam =]

Dash when you say installed do you do the configs?

Not really, i get to do a few commands and let the "TECH" in and he does the rest, i stay on site till they close the connection and setup the tunnel etc etc.

Hence why i'm always lookig to get free units to play with and learn them :)

Got this little beast through the post yesterday;

Plugged in and working;

Quite happy with it, seems pretty speedy for what it is. Only problem I have so far is every time I want to use it, I'll have to plug it into the TV downstairs as my comp screen doesn't support HDMI. Guess I could get around it by installing a VNC server on there but eh.

Been playing with pi for quite a while- they're bloody brilliant. Depending on what you intend to use it for- ssh or vnc is the way forward :)

I just looked on Allied Electronics' website...12 week lead time!! I was thinking about ordering one before I saw that!

Mine got here alot quicker than that. Ordered directly to Farnell / Element14, they received my order on the 24th May.
Tbh, I forgot I ordered it, so it was a nice suprise when it came though the post lol. It's defo worth the wait though, really really cool device. Going to see if I can get a webserver up and running on it, if that fails I've a few more ideas in mind :)

Those look awesome, I'd like to buy one some day to mess around with if ever they become easily available in Canada.

Yeah I was following the project long before they released. Still haven't been able to get one. So many things I could use them for, so little availability. Sadface.

This arrived today for my home lab :D

I ordered mine the other week. I should have it about mid-August. I'm going to try to make it into a XBMC client. Should be fun playing around with it.

Seen RaspBMC i take it? Really couldn't get any easier than that :)

Here's the one i've been playing with most:

Here's my RaspBMC one:

I have created a subreddit that would love some of your pictures and post. Hope this is not too spammy.

As for my network it is not worthy of submitting any pictures of. Just 100/10 Cable, WNDR3700 Router, Shitty Netgear CG3100 modem...
But once i was i charge of a multi rack setup for the site Funplanet.com.
Pictures below are OLD AS FUCK!

Funplanet was one of the most visited site in Sweden then. And what kind of bandwidth was all this glorious servers fed? 8Mbit!!!!!

Saw that 280r/420r up there as your firewall and was like...uhh nice power bill lol.

Saw a set up like that when i was in Q9 in toronto few weeks back, wondered what it was!

Can i ask what an entry level one of those set up's cost?

Correct on all 3--Procurve 2810-24G, 24 gig ports, fully managed layer 2. My first managed switch I'll get to mess around with.

got a 48P coming myself in a week for a new server network layout, cant wait!

Better wacht out with NFS and the autoDOS function in P2.2 of the Procurve switches.

Took me weeks to find out why ESX didnt mount my datastore.

Some DIY goodies: DIY NAS mdadm/Arch linux and ESX whitebox

Normally it sits in a EMC VNX shipping rack, but there is no power and network in the attic yet.
Also awaiting 2 dual NIC cards for both the NAS and the ESX because traffic from the Avamar Virtual Edition screws up my cifs shares.

I need better wire managers for the rack

Looks like the device ve Ben tripping over for th last year lol... ( the 1u router)

Love me some 3PAR, is that the F200, F400?

Saw a set up like that when i was in Q9 in toronto few weeks back, wondered what it was!

It's an F200. Not sure on the total cost. The main cost with things like this is the stupid licensing for each hard drive, I believe for this it's about $3k per drive.

Wow that's insane. Crazy how companies can get away with gouging you like that.

hehe the 2500 has a DENT in it, I bought it used on craiglist for about 100 bucks, its a 2509 terminal services router.

hence my interest in that 50 buck IP based serial router....cheaper, smaller....easier to use it sounds like

Ebay. I offered the guy 30 and he accepted.

I've been a longtime troll in the forum, and it's time I post some stuff from my job & studies.

In my previous job I dealt with a lot of customer premise work... which meant I dealt with a lot of MESSY CABLE WORK! Most surprisingly, this is normally in very important places.
