Network pics thread

I'm curious, how do you guys split your HA/redundant network appliances? Do you tend to stack them and put them in at least one rack or do you prefer to split them between 2 racks IE, redundant firewalls, redundant routers, hardware loadbalancers, etc. I'm currently planning out a new network row and have 2x 4 post racks for my cores at the bottom and patch panel up top. I'm then thinking a rack flanking both sides and then split my redundancy between them so I'll have an A side rack, and then a B side rack.

I know that's how my buddies who run the scada system for a major oil pipeline do things

Hp Server back in the rack !

it's Wrench00's unit, he knows i'm good at moding and making things quiet, so that's my task so he can have it in the same room and no go nuts from fan noise.

This will be appreciated here: 2x 5515-x ASA's for a little HA love and 250 SSL vpn connections.

yum. We actually have two 5515s for a project we are doing. These new specs and pretty sweet. I was trying to figure out the other day but did not have time to research - what is the HD bay on the front for?

Also it seems these units have active active out of the box.

Started to decommission the old ESX hosts today; everything is running on Cisco UCS now.

IIRC it can be used to stored signatures for the IPS functionality.

One thing about IBM servers, they are well built and well designed. Too bad they're so freaking expensive. When I worked at the hospital we started to transition off IBMs over to Dells. They still have some old IBMs running but as they die they're just pulled out as you can't get parts for those. Same idea with our IBM SAN. It was well built and all, but good luck getting parts for it. They wanted 12k for a controller card.

L5420s and 32gb RAM per. I have a box of hard drives I need to put in them (probably 250gb WD REs) and I've added the IPMI cards as well. Not the most modern things, but for the price I paid, not going to complain. Going to make for a nice HA VM cluster for testing various things.

^^^niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

hopefully my purchase goes through at the office and I get to play with 128gb of ram dual 6 core xeons and some 15k drives with hyperv

Awesome!
All of ours are x5650's with 96gb of ram, but they are sweet boxes. Esp with the built in Infiniband on the newer models.

damn!!!

If your servers have IPMI you should be able to pull data from your management interface if I'm not mistaken. That's on my to-do list for monitoring as well.

got the board into the netscreen, thanks to ebay

if the rest of the fans show up I can hopefully play with it next week

Here is a shot of the network ports.

Now go cry to your mommy and daddy about it. :)

Mike,
What raid card is in there? I read about some compatibility issues with LSI and a lack of firmware updates, otherwise I would swap from the M4's we use now.

Smart Array P410i with 512MB FBWC

This will be my first shot with SSD's in a full RAID config.

EDIT: I also forgot to order the hot swap trays, so those will be here by Friday hopefully. :(

Network thread ... not servers, servers, servers

What's the point of a network without servers to provide services?? :D

Got some new (to me) gear for my home lab.
