Network pics thread

I could, but I'm not. Everything I need it to do works with the OS it has now. All though I do want the features of 5.8

If you want to pop onto mine and have a look around you could.

I just wish they had rack ears :(

Guess ill have to buy a 2400 :)

My little FreeNAS server used for iSCSI and as an rSync server to backup my remote mail / web server.

@JAY... What model is that? We have one at work that we will never use again. Would be nice to pack it up and use it at home with what I got

i'm not sure on the model number, i'll have a look when I get home. Just to let you know I had to replace the fans as the stock fans are very noisy. Its almost silent now.

Well, Here is the new office. As well what I like to call the "GSC" (Guns & Servers Closet).
Its a bit messy right now, But I'm getting a 22u rack sometime later this week and will slowly convert everything to rackmount. Don't have all the guns in it yet either, Plan on wall mounting all of them wall across from the "rack".

Setup-
HP Procurve 1810G-24 switch
Synology 1511+ NAS (4x 1tb drives in raid 5...for now)
X86 based router running RouterOS
2x ESXi boxes running iSCSI back to the NAS.

I've got that same exact rack, need to get my setup cleaned and photographed and put back on here since i moved it

haha i would've went with a cabinet, but i didnt want to buy a small one as evetually i will be upgrading, and i dont wanna have to sell and buy a new one, but i can get a very big one as the room my networking stuff is in has vaulted ceilings

Crossbreed FTW

Not in the slightest.
You'll be wishing for a CCW holder when some fool tries to knock over the local McDonald's while your enjoying your lunch.

yeah...lol thats why i said it was a joke... i was like damn, didnt mean to piss him off :D

Not quite, Thats a Galaco "King Tuk"...
Originally I was going to get a crossbreed, But the local shop had the galaco's.
Also, That's a 3rd gen glock 23 with crimson trace laser if you were wondering :D Carry it everyday.

Zoom is my friend :( Upon closer inspection, I see no torture device designed into the belt clips. :p

I carry my Taurus PT709 Slim on a regular basis. :)

My wife carries the much nicer and much more comfortable to fire Springfield XD-9 subcompact.

Not in the slightest.

^What he said, except the words enjoy and McDonalds.

Now to keep things on topic. I dumped my untangle box and tossed a regular router + opendns. I intend to get an embedded sized device and use m0n0wall, but for now this is fine. I also dumped my drobo in favor of this snazzy and more reliable + feature rich QNAP device. :)

EDIT: Semi-regular router, I can connect my sprint 4G card to it as a failover. :)

Yeah, work with RouterOS all day at work so it was a good home choice. So what if its overpowered for my home needs.

I almost got a QNAP based device but decided on the synology as it seemed to have slightly higher performance. And I think it was cheaper too. Running it on bonded GigE to my switch too.

Is the Synology interface speedy? The QNAP interface could be "speedier" IMO, however Drobo had nothing really. The QNAP + 4 x 1TB Drives can be had for about $658~ new (+$20 if you buy it from Newegg). It also has dual GbE you can bond.

Its pretty speedy, Don't ever find myself waiting on it.
That's a good price for the QNAP, the 1511+ is 899 diskless. The thing that sold me was the Synology Hybrid raid, That works like the Drobo and lets you put just about anything in it, and it expands and handles everything for you. Not sure if the QNAP will do something like that other then the basic RAIDz.

I don't believe it will do the Hybrid RAID like the Drobo. Which was what originally sold me on the Drobo I might add. However the space lost on doing the array that way turned out to be a waste of my money. It was easier for me to just spec a proper box from the get go and do a RAID level migration easily down the road if needed.

Specs:
http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_software.asp?p_id=134

Right now I'm using 1.27 TB of 2.68 TB, and that's about four year's worth of data. We did a bunch of cleanup before the migration to the Drobo, we were using about 1.8-1.9 TB

I like the look of the QNAP's, I don't really seem to lose any space running the Hybrid Raid. And sure, I could still run raid 5, and expand the array, but that only works when I get all the drives swapped out. Like this, I can slowly swap the drives out for 2tb drives one at a time and use the space right after the array rebuilds.

Edit: Plus, I have 5 bays :D

I'm not sure how the Synology Hybrid RAID works, but here is an example from a Drobo. :(

http://www.drobo.com/resources/drobocalculator.php

Example 1:
--------------------
3 x 250 GB
1 x 750 GB
= 696.2 GB Usable

or

4 x 250 GB
= 696.2 GB Usable

Example 2:
--------------------
2 X 250 GB
2 X 750 GB
= 1.1 TB Usable

or

4 x 500 GB
= 1.4 TB Usable
--------------------

Mmmmm RouterOS. What's the UBNT gear for?

You know, I just decommissioned the HP in the picture, At least for now. But the whole room got cooler. That single P4 based HP doubled the heat and power usage in that room.

Edit: Damn Dirty P4's *shakes head*.

Hey dashpuppy. I think this is what your looking for. I'm not going to take a pic of it, but there is a plate that you put on the front to make it work with the tz210

Thanks for teasing me :)

Is that one of those remote power on/off units controllable via a web interface?

I don't remember dollar for dollar, but I think they were less than 300 a piece by the time discounts were applied. They go for 400 on Tripplites site.

Can we get a model number or something? I foresee one of those in the up and coming rack soon.
