Network pics thread

I wish we had a use for corporate chat honestly. haven't found a great reason for people to go with it for now. I'm really thinking I'm going to run with terminal services this next year and see what I can accomplish. Thin clients in places that just need a terminal sounds like a decent idea for me

Our biggest thing is mobility, people bounce around from terminal to terminal and need to pick up where they left off. i.e. sometimes our inventory clerk might take over for the receptionist and will continue doing inventory work while up front, etc. Parts counter guys on weekends will shift down to one end of the counter. Service people will work at the writers desk and sometimes in the office. So quickly moving from terminal to terminal is the biggest feature we need. :)

As for corporate chat, they use it to quickly get overrides on invoices, etc. Because clerks might be on the phone, so they see the flashing IM box and handle it quicker most of the time. I'll use it if i'm on the phone and somebody calls me, I'll send them an IM to let them know and have them chat it to me.

Actually it looks like its one seller that selling them for cheap. Other then him, the next cheapest one is $90-100. Looks like he is changing them out and started out with 130 of them, and just wants to get rid of them no mater the price.

Thanks for pointing them out though, made an offer and bought two of them, might grab another 2 if he still has them when I get more funds. There a steal at $20.

Does anyone know what the Auxiliary usb port can be used for. Tried looking online, but there ist much on it online. and procurve site just says for use for a later time.

Also wanted to thank you guys for pointing this out, Made an offer an got one myself. Will be replacing my aging wrt54g.

Anyone want one if I buy the 10 pack he has up there? I need 4-6 and if I can buy the $150/10 lot, I would happily sell them for what I pay+ shipping.

they are definitely worth it

HP ProCurve 530 wireless access point

also they are going to come password protected, you need to clear the config

[Reset] & [Clear]: Resets the configuration.
• Resets the configuration back to custom defaults.
i. Press the reset and clear buttons simultaneously.
ii. Once the LEDs shut off, release the reset button. The LEDs will
then flash about once per second.
iii. While the LEDs are still flashing, release the clear button. The
configuration sets to the custom default settings and the AP is
rebooted
times/second) .
iv. When the clear button is released, the AP will then be reset to
factory defaults and reboot.

if that does not work you can try a factory reset

• Resets the configuration back to factory defaults.
i. Press the reset and clear buttons simultaneously.
ii. Once the LEDs shut off, release the reset button. The LEDs will
then flash about once per second.
iii. Push the reset button (while continuing to hold the clear button).
After about one second, all LEDs will flash rapidly (about 10
times/second) .
iv. When the clear button is released, the AP will then be reset to
factory defaults and reboot.

heres the manual also

http://cdn.procurve.com/training/Manuals/AP530-MgmtCfg-Dec2008-5991-2193.pdf

the CLI is basically an IOS copy, if you can navigate IOS you can configure this ap in 2 seconds

the web interface is really good also

Were the ony g or do n? I'd be down just to mess with. Did I muss a link?

Opps, HP 530 access points. They are on ebay for $30 shipped individually, but he has a large "package" of 10 for $150 or $15/e + shipping. I would have 4 or so spare I would gladly resell for the $15+ shipping + shipping to anyone interested.

they are dual radio

Radio 1 is B/G
Radio 2 is A/B/G

it has built in 2.4ghz antennas for Radio 1 and 5.8ghz antennas for Radio 2... so if you want to use the internal antennas Radio 1 will operate in B/G and Radio 2 will operate in A

it also has 4 RP-SMA connectors, 2 for radio 1 (one primary and a second one for diversity) and 2 for radio 2 (same primary/diversity)

all you have to select in the config is internal/external, it will automatically figure out if it has one antenna or two...

it can also use one (or both) of the radios for Rogue AP Detection

here is the data sheet with all the specs

Since my switch won't do poe, anyone ever build their own poe injector or have a source for a cheap one?

^ nice but it looked pretty damn good at the start.

Yeah, we redid that room about three years ago from two rooms over. Put a dedicated AC in there as well when it was our corporate office, which we moved two years ago. So it just got messy over the last two years, it was time to bring it back up to speed. :)

you could build one pretty easily i guess, those hp's come with a 48v power supply so all you have to do is put it on the unused pins

OHHHH lookie what came today :)

Will install it tomorrow in the rack :)

Depending on shipping i might be interested in that,

Nice! I'm thinking of getting a rackmount UPS eventually. The shipping is a killer though, those are like 120 lbs. :D

I picked up my 24 port 10/100 injector on ebay for about 20$+ shipping end of last year. gigabit ones were around 100$

Everybody needs giant batteries! :D

I have two EBM's coming for my 3000VA UPS's :)

The largest i could use was a 1500, because after that it changes the power plug and requires a 30amp plug, im renting right now so i'm not going to buy that till i get my own house then run a nice dedicated 30amp snake to the rack :)

Yeah, I had dual 30A@208V circuits installed, one per battery. :)

if you are not going to draw >15A you can just replace the 30A plug with a 15A plug as long as its a 120V UPS

could be an issue while charging under load, also, electrical code violation most likly.

but at home, it would probably work, worst case, you keep tripping the breaker.

Id rather just run a whole new line from the breaker in my new house, that way i don't over load and pull to much current through the original house wiring.

why not then at that point just run 10ga wiring and install a 30A 220V twistlock? (NEMA L6-30R)

What about the third phase connection? Just hanging?

I've seen APC Symmetra units that only take two phase connectors (so it's really only taking one 'set' of connections, A-B).

Dashpuppy: If you're going to add the heavy duty outlet doing 240V is simple enough. Just take two circuit breakers off the two legs of service (the black and the red are 120V with respect to ground, but are effetively 180 degrees out of phase so it's 240Vrms between them). Usually the insulation on the wire is good to either 300V or 600V (the 600V rated stuff is generally used in industrial service).

the next apc unit im buying is a 3000 it takes 120v and a dedicated 30amp line, :)

70lbs and shipping from Ontario to me was 29$

Nice, that's good to know.

When I have more money I'd like to try to find a used 3000+ va unit without batteries for fairly cheap, and hook it up to a bank of deep cycle batteries. I'd probably hook up my office outlet to it too. If the power goes out and the capacity is too low, a shutdown would be sent to all equipment that's on it.

Currently my new tower APC 1000 is getting the job done though.

will it work with deep cycles tho ? ie charging issues or voltage drop and the psu charging them properly and or not giving proper read's...

You guys made the HP 530's too popular, he pulled the 10 pack down and is relisting them individually, sorry.
