Time to improve on the idea though. I've got some single transistor LED drivers (I design synthesizers) that will follow the input voltage. Could make it pulse or fade with just a few more parts. :)

Just too much win in this. You should make a set with different effects, or one with selectable effects. ;)

Knowing what forum this is, I fully expect your version to use something like a car battery and thousands (tens?) of LEDs :eek::p

I am doing a 3D tree on 3 9volts. the retailer did no have the right resistor I was loking for nor the capacitor for blinking.
