Any news of Antec upping the Neo Powers wattage. I'd love to see a 500 or 600. :)

Damn I just got my Neopower 480w. I wouldn't mind getting another one when I go SLI though. It's a very nice supply.

wow i really wished they would have a neopower 550. i always wondered why they never went higher when the 480s were so successful, especially with SLI becoming more mainstream. but then again, wattage isnt everything...

CWT didn't have an EX unit of higher wattage... the line goes from 330w to 480w. They seem to have designed them as a temporary ATX 2.0 compliant unit until they could bring out the new A2 line, which are the new True 2's. It is possible they ran into some problems that limited the EX's to 480w and below - hard to say for sure. I do know I have never seen an EX outside those sold as the Neopowers - they're not doing too well outside Antec it would seem.

Of course, now that the True 2's have arrived, there's nothing stopping Antec from releasing a Truepower 2 550w modular, which would be superior to the Neo ;)

Who is this CWT you speak of? What's wrong with the Neo Power?

Wolf how is your Fortron FSP530-60GNA? I've been wondering about the FSP line. I've heard some decent things about them.

CWT=Channel Well Technology

Aside from building PSU's for Antec, they also build for Meridian XClio and market under their own name. I've had seven of their units, but nothing newer than an older Antec Smartpower.

The Fortron's doing good, 13 months old and counting. This model has a mild cooling design flaw which I have corrected by moving the intake fan. FSP makes some of the most reliable and good quality units around - you'd have to pay a lot more most of the time for the likes of Zippy or high watt PC P&C (low watt units are likely to be Fortron anyway) to get anything better.

I don't recommend the 530w anymore, unless someone needs huge amounts of 5v power for boards that still run the CPU from 5v (like mine). There is a version of it that is far more capable on the 12v (28A instead of 18A), but the only place to get it anymore is through SilenX (and it ain't worth the price they want for it). Most of the time, the AX500-A is enough. For SLI, the two 550w server units are better options with my preference to the FSP550-60PLG and its single 36A 12v rail.

Wolf, your opinion on my sig and using the Neo Power. I feel like I could use more. What are your thoughts? I got the Antec TP 550, but it didn't work so I had to RMA back to Newegg. Can't make up my mind as to what to do, if anything. Thanks.

The Neo is a good unit, but it wouldn't be my first choice for hardcore overclocking. The 12v2 (CPU) line is a little on the weak side for a Prescott. The only complaint I have against CWT/Antec at the moment is that these have cooling issues - the 120mm fans used are low pressure designs that can't cool these units well if the case is under negative air pressure inside.

I'd measure each 12v rail with a meter to see how they're holding up under load though before planning replacement of the unit. 12v1 can be measured at any drive molex, while 12v2 needs to be read from the back of the 4 pin 12v connector on the board.

IMO the Antec "fan problem" is BS, as the PSU was never intended to be a part of the case cooling solution.
There are no cooling problems with these PSU's in a properly cooled case.

I must agree that the latest Intel Preshots, especially the dual cores,
when OC'ed can demand too much current for most ATX12V 2.xx PSU.
Therefor I must agree & recommend a PSU with a strong single +12V rail,
such as the PC P&C 510, the OCZ PowerStream 520W & the Sparkle 550W EPS.

Dave ;)
