Need Video Editing/Audio SFF Build Help

1. What will you be doing with this PC? Eventually light Gaming, Adobe CS5 Suite, Pro Tools, 720p video editing

2. What's your budget? 750 MAX

3. Where do you live? No places to buy in store. I'll purchase off new egg and amazon

4. What exact parts do you need for that budget? Case, CPU, RAM, Dvd drive, hdd, motherboard

5. If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? I already have a beautiful 27" asus monitor.

6. What specific features do you need in a motherboard? Nothing super specific, i just need this puppy to edit 720p videos.

7. What resolution output do you need? 1080p

8. Does this system need to fit into a particular space? nope

9. How comfortable are you with custom case design/modification and electrical wiring? What tools do you have (Screwdrivers/Leatherman, Drill, Dremel, Metal snips, Soldering Iron, Bending Brake, CNC/Welding machines/Plasma cutter, etc...)? Not comfortable, i just need something easy

10. How important is the noise/silence of this sytem? It doesn't have to be absolutely silent, but doesn't need to sound like a plane is taking off in my room

11. How mobile does this system need to be? Need a carrying handle or carrying straps? Is weight important (carry-on bag, etc)? Water cooling quick disconnects, etc? I need to be able to take it to work and back home everyday. So something pretty portable. I figured going with a SFF build that would make it easier.

12. Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit? Remember that OEM copies of Win7 have issues with new motherboards . Yes, I have a 64bit copy.

13. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Immediately, in a couple weeks, 3-5 years? Within 2 weeks.


Here is kinda what I had in mind. What do you guys think? Long time lurker here and just excited to get the best build for my money.

Since virtually all mITX mobos for sale now are based on the H61 and H67 chipsets which allow for no overclocking and since you're not planning on overclocking, you can drop the CPU down to the Core i5 2400 and be safe.

Since you're doing a ton of video editing, that probably means that you're need a lot of space. If so, I recommend getting this hard drive (especialyl since it's faster than that WD 500GB drive you chose):
$65 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

GPU wise, take a look at the regular GTX 560 card.

No. The H61 and H67 chipsets found on most socket LGA 1155 mobos do not allow for overclocking. And to quote E4g1e: "With a P or Z series chipset-based motherboard, the supposedly "locked" non-K CPU becomes "limited unlocked", which means that the non-K CPU is still "overclockable", just not as much. In this case, the i5-2400's maximum allowable overclocked speed would be 3.6 to 3.8 GHz via the Turbo Boost feature, depending on the number of cores under load."

So in other words, don't plan on overclocking.

Hey, I noticed that the HDD you suggested is a 3.5" drive. Will this fit into the case I want? I was looking at the Specs for it on amazon and it said it was able to fit beefier 2.5" HDDs. I'm just looking for a little clarification on it.

EDIT: Also, is that the best motherboard for my money? I was looking at the SG05 thread and most people had a gigabyte motherboard. I just want to be sure I'm getting my moneys worth. Again, thank you for your help.
