Hey all! First time poster here long time lurker. I'm sick of my tiny HP WHS and I need much more expendability so I'm about to buy a huge upgrade for my WHS but I need validation from the experts before I order.

Here's my build:

Biostar TF720 AM2+ Motherboard w/ Onboard Video
AMD Athlon X2 4050e 45w Processor
Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM
Norco 2040 20 Bay Hot Swap Rackmount Case w/ 1 Internal HDD Bay
2 x Supermicro SAT2 MV8 SATA Controllers PCI-X 8 Port
CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W 8x sata connector
HITACHI 0A38016 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
Microsoft Windows Home Server Operating System

Price: about 1100$ CAN

Is this any good? Am I missing something? The supermicro cards on neweggs are backorder anyone knows of good alternatives? Will that system be relatively silent? I'm willing to spend a bit more so it's not too noisy in my home office.

Also, this case seem to hold 20 HD but I read somewhere in here that you can put 23 HDs. Where would I put the other 3? I don't see any easy space to put them in on the motherboard side?? I have 2TB in external PATA drives and it would be nice to use them in this build even if they aren't in the backplane.

Thanks a bunch in advance for the help ;)

Yea that looks fine.

I personally dont like Biostar products, but really just about anything works for WHS. I initially had mine on a PIII 733mhz system and it worked fine.

Looks good. Not missing anything. Not sure. Not really due to the fans. I forget the fan size.

It can fit up to 21 hard drives, not 23 IIRC. 20 in the hot-swap bays and 1 HDD bay for the OS drive. Though I guess one can fit a 2.5" HDD into the Slim CD/DVD bay. You could probably add two drives to the side of case with duct tape or something.

you can fit three extra HDD's.
1 in the Extra OS HDD bay, and you can put one on either side of it.
Its not designed for it, but its the same size, and they can just be set there.
Not excatly Ideal but it works.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the heads up!

thanks a bunch guys!

The Supermicro SAT2 MV8 SATA Controllers PCI-X 8 Port seems to be backorder on newegg anyone has good alternatives to that card? All I keep seeing are very expensive 300$+ ones :(
