I just upgraded from the e6600 to the q6600 and I am having problems installing the operating system. I have tried my copy of xp and it loads and then says that I am missing the ntloader file while rebooting. I have also tried my vista and it never get thru with the install sayin that certain files are missing from the cd. Any help will be much appreciated. I have checked all the connections on the hardware and they are all in so I dont know what else it could be.

Try installing with a single stick of RAM.

Also, please list your system specs with as much detail as possible.

Asus p5n32-E SLI, Q6600, 2 gb corsair ram, ultra 120 extreme heatsink, 600W PSU, 250
IDE HD, Now I am not sure that the memory is the problem cause like I stated before windows will load, heck I was even up and running with xp but i had to reboot with and update and then that happened. But there was somethin I noticed today while I was working on it. I did notice during the install that the hd would be doin a lot of caching and then just stop in the middle of the xp install and it would be a couple of minutes then start again. I cant remember if that was normal with the xp install or not, where it would have spots where it would stop installing the operating system and then just start right back up again. I will try to remove one stick of memory and see if that helps.

Ok the on stick didnt work, but now I cant even get it come up to even retry installing the operating system, It will stop to where it is trying to format the hard drive, sometimes it will even stop before it gets to that part. Now sometimes when the pc turns on it will just show a black screen and do nothing else. It is givin me more problems than before. I am not sure what it is goin on. Heck maybe I should of stayed with the e6600 lol.

If windows installation fails, its most likely a problem with either the RAM/MCH, the optical drive/disc/cable/controller, or the HDD/cable/controller. Do you have a spare HDD you could use? or any spare cables? Did you try other DIMM slots with a single stick? Is your RAM voltage high enough? You didn't list your RAM model, so I can't check what voltage its supposed to be at.

I would suggest a BIOS update. Most chipsets were designed to be quad-core ready but required an update before they could reliable detect and use the new CPU's.

It's probably not the issue that's causing the problems, but it's definitely a step that needs to be done before moving forward.

Also, consult your mobo documentation to see which slot you should be using in a single DIMM configuration.

You should also check to make sure the processor is seated correctly. I know the LGA is relatively foolproof, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot and in the process ensure the heat sink is making solid contact with your new CPU.

Here is the memory and the voltage as is sits right now is 1.88V the vcore is 1.24V. I also tried the memory in another slot and it came up to let me in the bios it gave me problems on the first boot up but let me in on the second boot up. I havent tried to install the os yet. Prolly will try one more time. Ok while I was typing this the bios froze up and wont let me move in it.

Ok just tried installing windows again. It gave me the BSOD and techinical Information is
STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC000001D, 0x808F433E, 0xF7CAE338, 0xF7CAE034)

I just replaced my IDE cable and I will let you know what happens it is tryin to format the HD right now.

ok it is my hard drive givin me problems now. First it said it could not format the drive so I was goin to go back and partition it and it said that it could not access the disk.

ok guys I got a new Hd and it was formatting and it restarted on its on then when it came back on it said that it couldnt see the awdflash.exe. So I put it the motherboard supplied cd and it flashed the bios and now cant get the pc to post or anything it will come on but the video doesnt show up or anythin. Can anyone shed some insight.

Download Memtest+ V.170, unzip it, burn the ISO file to a CD, and then boot from it, just like you would do with the XP install CD. Let Memtest+ run for at least three hours on each stick of RAM separately. If you start seeing errors, than your RAM is bad.

I cant even get to the boot menu. The screen stays black with no video nothing no post nothin.

ok update I tried swapping out the ram in every slot just using one stick and finally got it to come up to where I can access the bios and tried to reinstall the operating system and everytime it says setup for xp it gets done and is fixing to try and format the hard drive it gives me a bsod. I have tried xp and vista both and comes up with the same thing. I dont have another video card that i could try. I also tried to run memtest and it came out ok on all the memory that I put into the machine. I am not sure what to try next.
