WAR's graphics like WOW'S? Will it run fine on my system with decent graphics at 1440x900? I get some great frames in wow i would like to in WAR as well. To me Wow still has some decent graphics. BTW my system is in sig.

Is the game buggy like AoC was? Or is it really stable being compared to the latter?

The game looks like it could be a wow killer or equal if they do it right...My only concern is if i can be able to run the game smooth with a billion other people next me in mass pvp.

AoC sorta failed with massive lag in mass pvp when i played (dunno about now).

thanks

You should be just fine.

(My system on the other hand, *see sig* might require some in-game options tweaking etc)

Thanks i just really hope i can run this game at 1440x900 with decent graphics. It doesnt have to be "everything cranked to max settings" but i want the game to look decent and run smooth for the most part...

I was running Beta with a 7800gt very nicely, you'll be fine. It's not a graphic intensive game.

great sounds like a fun game...I played DAOC on launch day, it was great fun, except for the grind ....

It's funny how every MMORPG since WoW's release has been called the "wow killer" and where are they now? dont get me wrong, I want WAR to be kick ass, there NEEDS to be another very popular MMO that can compete with WOW, I'm looking forward to the open beta next week so I can see for myself and hopefully it will run decent on my system as well

Mythic themselves said WAR isn't a WoW killer. Why does anything need to kill WoW? The only thing that will truly "kill" WoW is Blizzard.

What are your specs> You didn't post them...

However, WAR looks a LOT better than WOW (which was based on Warhammer style-wise, FYI). Take a look at the screenshots at the bottom of this article about what WAR needs to run well and the info in it.

As far as bugs/etc. WAR is about as polished BEFORE LAUNCH right now as WOW is *now* four years after launch.

Specs are in my sig....I just want to run WAR at 1440x900 with some nice graphics without lagging alot....

I hope i can but im getting conflicting answers from other sites.

Some say i surpass the requirements, others say ill be able to barely run at medium...

I just want to be able to run at 1440x900 with my rig...smoothly

Being a wow killer isnt my description, i just see it every time the "next big thing" in mmo's is supposed to hit. Besides, you dont think devs want their games to be wow killers? Of course they want as big of a slice of that 10 million subscribers that they can get their hands on.

having more good choices makes devs think outside the box to offer better features to keep their subscribers from going elsewhere. competition is good, but currently there is zero competition for WoW

And why is that? WoW pretty much popularized the whole MMO genre. Personally speaking if I was playing WoW for 4 years now, whats my incentive to stop playing WoW and start somewhere else fresh? I don't think there would be especially if the other MMO is also subscription/payment based. I never played WoW or had a desire to try it but u got to hand it to Blizzard, they pretty much hold a monopoly on the genre. Other games might hold a slice of the pie for maybe a few months after initial release but I'd say eventually their customers would lose interest in a small diminishing community and would join WoW also.

Your motivation is that new content creation doesn't keep up with demand. This is partly because creating new content takes time, and partly b/c corporations want to milk the player base for as much as possible without losing profit.

I agree with the above posters that WAR doesn't need to "kill" WoW to do well, but a little competition will do both companies good. Even if WoW retains by far the lion's share of the subscribers, there are sure to be upsides for both companies. WoW, like any successful franchise lacking competition, is growing lazy and has really started taking the player base for granted. The latest lead-Dev, Kalgan, is really a shining example of what I'm talking about. The fact that this mouth-breathing asshat still draws a paycheck just proves how nonplussed Blizzard has become by the lack of competition out there.

From what I've seen of WotLK, and my experiences with tBC, Blizz developers desperately need some competition to "keep their tits up". For proof, I point to about a year of bad PR on Blizzard's behalf lately and some really atrocious blue posts directed at the user base. I've seen better customer service in France, for chrissakes.

But I agree that the launch is crucial, and any game coming into the market is going to need to fight for market share. WAR needs to keep a healthy, growing userbase and generate huge word of mouth to do well. It also helps that they're angling more for PvP, an area Blizzard has alternated ignoring or marginalizing for years. The PvP-centric userbase at launch may also keep populations healthy as Mythic works to expand the PvP game to draw more players in. Most MMOs try to keep players busy fighting the computer, but it seems like the Mythic devs have caught onto the fact that the one thing that tends to keep players going in many games these days is fighting each other.

I played the preview weekend at 1600x1200 with everything as high as it can go for the preview (which is probably around medium settings). I did not experience any lag during PVE, scenarios(instanced fighting between destruction and order), nor during the open world RvR I tried which consisted of about 35ish destruction vs 20ish order.

Nice but im trying to find someone with about the same setup that i have, or someone with atleast a 8800 GTS 512, and see how thier fps are going at 1440x900 or higher. Just to compare.

I mean if the game is gonna run like shit on my system then i wont buy it, and stick to wow. But i really want to play WAR but i got to have some knowledge on how my system is gonna run it or ill be wasteing 50 bucks.

Check the link I posted... there's thoughts about a pair of systems each with an 8800GT 512, Radeon 4850, 4870, and one with a GTX 280.

Many people don't have sigs enabled :) so I didn't see that at all. As far as running you'll be fine, I ran WAR at 1440x900 on an E2200 w/ 4gb ram and vista 64 plus an 8800gt 512 at its max settings in beta silky-smooth even in rvr, with no AA but 16x AF. There will be better settings on release but you'll be able to have it looking good and running well just fine. I've been in beta for several months now, myself.

By that do you mean them shut down their servers? WoW has achieved that counterstrike status now, even if blizzard releases a super duper WoW 2, WoW will still have more players for years. its just like what happened with CS and valve.

WoW will probably turn into Everquest I/II and have 156,753 expansion packs.

Nah. Blizzard releases their expansions too slow for that to happen. At EQ's 4 year mark, they already had 5 expansions out with the 6th one a few months down the road. The 15th expansion will be released this October. Simply amazing. I stopped playing after #4 though.

I’ve been in closed beta for over 2 months now.

Running the game at 1920x1200 and 1920 x 1080 on a Evga 8800 GS 384 mb card OC to 650mhz, AMD x2 4400 (see Sig, second comp)

The client is using between 900 megs and 1.4 gigs of system memory, devs have said they shaved about 100 megs off in the last two weeks for load, under XP pro

I have “decient” frame rates, due to them having the game hardlocked to low/medium settings in high population RvR setting; 40+ V 40+. senerios, no issues at all. same with PvE. if you want to really stress your system, try these setting during OB, in the Nvidia control panel. (kicked my Cards little butt up and down)

-Resolution: 1920x1200
-AA: Turned from OFF to 16x (or 8x)
-AF: Turned from OFF to 16x (or 8x)
-Sampling: Turned from Multi to Super Sampling
-Textures: Turned from High to Highest Quality
-Triple buff: On turned to Off
-Multi Thread: Auto turned On
These changes were made using the same 175.19 drivers.

We are currently down in closed.. waiting on a patch.. I’ll post more when I see version 4.1

SLI is currently borked due to both Mythic and Nvidia (issues with Warhammer mark of chaos VS Warhammer Age of reckoning in the drivers). The above settings actually fixed this issue for some people

Devs have posted that the game is optimized to run on duel cores, not quads. So minimal performance gains going to quads specify related to WAR.

I have alos rvred on a intel t2.0 duel core | go 7900 GS | 1 gig memory | 17' 1440x900 laptop. open field was fair... senerios and pve, no issues as far as frame rate, etc

Well I guess it depends how long Blizzard wants to support WoW, if in another two decades there is still ten million subscribers, I'm sure they'll have at least another four expansions out. Though I can't see WoW lasting that long, since a better MMO could come out in that time... I could be entirely wrong though and probably will be.

While it's optimized for dual, it can make use of quads. Also dual-core supported games benefit from more cores on quads just like single-threaded ones benefit from a dual-core: antivirus, Windows, antispyware, background programs, etc. all go onto the remaining cores instead of bogging down the ones being used by the game.

<nod> was just pointing out from a purely "WAR" stand point that they didn't make use of the 2 other cores. which is a shame, but to be expected.

ya, most pople are going to have a few things running.. Vent/Music/AV/AS/browser, so a quad isn't a bad idea at all

Gotcha, just was making sure since it's a common misconception :).
