Hey guys, I've been building a new rig and here are the specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400
2GB Corsair PC 6400
Asus P5N E-SLI Mobo
eVga Geforce 8800GTX
NEC DVD-RW Drive
400GB Western Digital SATA HDD

I got this PSU with it:

Got everything all hooked up. All power going to the right places. The BIOS posts and recognizes my DVD drive and HDD. But at random times, the comp will just shut down, which leads me to believe that it's a power issue. My question is: can the power supply above support my hardware? I noticed the PSU has only one PCI-e connector coming from the PSU. The cord branches off into two six-prong clips which is perfect for the card, but maybe not enough power? So I tried generating power through the peripheral clips provided with the board and still no luck... And if not, will this one do the trick?

Doubt it, that supply is more than enough to run the hardware you listed. Of course it could be defective but my experience is that typically, they die completely.

I think you have a heat related issue. Did you overclock ? What heatsink did you use on the cpu ? Did you install it yourself ? What temps are being reported in the bios ? Download Coretemp and see what it says both at idle and under load.

You might want to repost this in the motherboard section with the information above supplied, if others also agree with me its probally not your supply.

I would think it's a memory issue more than a power issue. memtest86+ it.

Also, the psu should be ok, although i'm not a huge fan of them due to a past experience, and at $149, there's many better choices than an OCZ GXS. Dual 18a rails should be enough for an 8800GTX.
