Ok guys, I have noticed A LOT of really clean looking systems on this board. I love the way some of the cases I have seen look on the inside. With the wires all ran perfectly and loomed ect. Can anyone give me some tips on what I should do? I want my case to look like this on the inside. Can anyone tell me where I can get cables like this guys? They are black with nice looking material around them. Also any other materials I need to purchase, or places online that have products I can buy to make the inside look spiffy?! I hate the round cables I currently have, they come undone at the ends and expose the ugly ribbon cable. I want REALLY high quality cables.

See all that unused space back there? Don't be afraid to run the cables back there and then bring them out to their needed spots. Also, you have those two empty 5.25 drive bays, and they can hide a bunch of stuff as well...I know because I have that same case. :D

(side note, unless you are paying for Photobucket, it may get hosed after a while and then your pics can't be shown...may I suggest imageshack?
 
Do you have any pics of your case? Was it easy to route everything? I got a modular power supply in hopes that would make things look better, but i need to run the wires differently lol. Oh and thanks for the imageshack link.

Oh and did you do any mods to your case door, window or anything? I wanna see some pics!
 
Nope no pics....still don't have a camera. I don't even have a camera on my cell phone. :(

Routing was pretty easy, there are some things, like the front i/o port cables that have to go to the back that were kind of hard to make look nice. But then again, I am running a mATX board in that case so it frees up some options for me that it won't for you since you have a full ATX in there.

No mods either, it is 100% stock. I have left it alone becaue I am building a case from scratch right now and the Kingwin is just a holding place for my parts right now...in fact as soon as I get some more of my parts in....I will be getting rid of the Kingwin.
 
well for sites you could easly google computer mods, but xoxide.com is a good one. you have nice cables just try and coil up the unused parts and shove them somehwere they cant be seen. also try making them look nice so they can be seen. ur cables dont always have to be hidden they can be shown and look nice.
 
yum, i like spagetti...... oh, wait those are your cables, mabye you should read the wire hidding faq thats on here somewhere.
 
I can sort you out right away with your fan wires. Twist them like I do :

And use some velco strips to tidy things away. I think the main trouble u'll have it with those big ass PSU cables.

hmm... the only advice i could give you is to rout all the cables you can behind the motherboard tray... and ditching the ultra-x connect would make things a lot cleaner. imo the cables are so stiff they are impossible to hide.

Basically what I was gonna "open" with.....making extensive use of the mobo tray is crucial here. Also, ditching the X-Connect might seem like a rash move...but it will help, the cables are reather stiff.....and their modular design is AWFUL in my opion. Having the cables come out all along the whole back of the PSU just spreads out the mesh even more and makes it kinda pointless. It's much easier IMO to just get a normal PSU and route everything behind your mobo tray that you can and work from there.
 
First of all just disconnect everything and start anew if you're serious about re-arranging the mess. It'll be a lot easier than going wire by wire... 'Specially when dealing with bulky PSU cables which you'll more than likely have to re-arrange connection-wise and decide which should be used/combined on what, etc.
 
if you want an expert job I suggest you make your own power and ide cables.

Of course if you mess it up and fry stuff it's not my fault.

I'd make my own power cables to the perfect measured length sleeve them myself and add the connectors. Then I'd find some thin gauge wire and make ide cables out of it.( the connectors just crimp on) You'd probably have to tape the wires perfectly or find a clever way to get them to stick together right where you want the connector to go.. then sleeve over the round bundle of wires.(test them with a meter could be a good idea) Use heatshrink on the ends and right angle molex connectors where needed and you can even pick the color. You could even sleeve your fan wires but you may not want to sleeve much if you are just going to hide it all out of sight.

Also you should run everything behind the mobo and in the 5.25 bays and cut holes if needed in strategic locations.

My idea for modding a case is to mod a female IDE connector on my drive bays so that my drives could literally just plug right into the connector. and the wires would all be hidden under metal channels that I attach to the case (you'd never see the wires again). of course you probably would have to solder for that and if you don't have experience you may not want to.

So if you are ambitious and want to do something like my last idea you could probably make something a lot of the [H] would like to see.
 
what would you suggest for removing the pins from the psu/mobo connector? I have a molex tool for the 4pin connectors but i need something a bit smaller for the mobo molex and im not sure what would work.....
 
So I can really just cut the ide cables? Where can I get some new connectors for the end. I have a lot of access to wire/cutters/crimpers/drimmel/solder(sp?) tools. Do power connectors crimp at the ends? I dont see why I couldnt shorten the wire up for them on my PS and crimp new ends on. If its just a power/ground/constant wires, I can always cut them and butt connector them back together and then cover it up with some type of material.

Here's an explanation of what I did, maybe it can help you improve your wiring.

First thing I learned is the dremel IS your friend, I made cuts in 12 places on this case to better hide wires.

120mm fan: I ran wire through mobo mount hole right next to the fan, and drilled out a hole in the case below it to run straight to the backside.

CPU: Wire comes right off fan, down side and under mobo. Theres another hole sitting out of view to run the wire through. I did the same this for the P4 Power connector, squeezed it between the HSF and some capacitors and then through a hole. For these 2 spots I used electrical tape but idealy heatshrink or sleaving would be the best.

Videocard: Ahh, the power cable for the videocard. This is my favorite one to show off. Most mobos have a mounting hole right by the AGP slot, so you pop the wires out of the molex for videocard power, run each wire through the hole at a time.. and reconnect them to the molex on the backside. Like all other holes, a hole in the case was required as well. My thermal probe and fan wire are run between the heatsink and card, then go through a hole right up against edge of the mobo where it butts with the case, 1/4" below the card itself.

USB Headers: The 2 thick wires right below the videocard, I cut a slot on the bottom of the back and the wires run down about an inch then through to the back. The soundcard blocks the holes nicely for an even cleaner look.

IDE and ATX: Carefull cuts to the exact size of the molex headers on those wires were made right next to where they connect to the board. Following the common theme, they get pulled right to the back of the case, and then go back through holes cut in the drivecage and into the drives.

HD: I reverse mounted the harddrive which can be a bit difficult (especially in this case!), but essentially you just screw it in backwards and the IDE/SATA/Power cables go the back of case without ever being seen at all.

PSU: Finally I cut a hole in back of case, right next to the PSU where the wires go out so they can get to the back with minimal showing. A little extreme, but I fabricated that little box next to the PSU which velcros over the wires further hiding them.

Well thats my summary, you probably dont want to go as all out as I did but maybe someone shall. Any little things you take away from it cant hurt.

Here's a tip, use a hair dryer on those stiff cables and then you can shape them the way that you want to. That guy obviously did almost all his sleeving by himself. You can see that, I believe he has an Audigy Platinum and he even sleeved that cable!

BTW, speaking of the Audigy, where did you get those pics from, I would really like to see if I can PM him or something just to see if that is the Audigy and if he can give me a tip? Oh and does anyone know where to get those brackets for PCI cards?

Hehe, at least you can feel proud about it.....

First time I had someone quote something of mine on me was when I said something along the lines of "most all of us start fresh and newbish around here".....then someone went and dug up my first post I ever made and threw it back in my face cus it wasn't newbish at all. They are a touch pricey.....but if you're going to end up sleeving everything it WILL be worth your money to pick up that kit....because I've seen first hand how irritating the ATX and 4pin aux cables are to sleeve and disconnect without the proper tool.

Even though that's still a decent kit, be carefull.....because the tool for the ATX cable often isn't very strong.
