I'm about update my HTPC in a month or two and was thinking around 10-12 TB of storage on start and need a solid and price conscious raid card. Was looking at this HighPoint RocketRAID 3530 card. Any experience or recommendations?

I would never use raid5 for that many disks. Use raid6 instead. However for an HTPC it may be better to do what I do, use individual disks with no raid at all.

6 Drive Raid 5 is just about at the lmits of how many drives I would use in Raid 5. The 3530 is actually quite a good card, people tend to run down Highpoint here due to support issues and there less desirable 2XXX and below cards but the 35XX series are fast and pretty good.

If you do have the extra cash then the Adaptec 5XXX series or Areca 1680 are a better choice but when it comes down to it they are all Intel IOP ased and performance and compatability is fairly similar.

Thats gonna be a loud HTPC!! Why not use a NAS or server for the storage, and keep it in the garage or under the stairs?

I just built a raid 5 array with 5 2TB disks. So i roughly have about 7.2TB of storage. I am tempted to use it as my HTPC. It shouldn't be any louder then any other PC. I just went with a cheaper 100$ intel software card and it has worked flawlessly for me.

What speeds are you getting?

Don't have a garage or stairs. I thought about it, but that is just another machine i have to keep running instead of integrating it into my HTPC. Currently, my HTPC is quiet with 5 drives. When playing content, the HTPC is completely inaudible. However, in a year or two when I move, I will probably get a Norco 20 drive case, fill it up with 3 or 4 tb drives and run a raid card + 10Gb NIC card for a file server and call it a day.
